I generally try to keep away from foreign car websites...looking a the price of vehicles makes me cry.

What with import tariffs, protectionist duties to shield the delicate little flowers of car makers we have here from the big bad world, and Australia being about the only place on Earth where you can't just jump in an drive a brand new left hand drive car on the roads, we pay through the nose for foreign vehicles...always have, always will.

And i'd say you believe Australian manufacturers should be able to compete with the imports made in 3rd world countries on price. Yer that makes total sense....

Unless everyone wants to work for the same price that other nations are able to, then yes give us those 'protectionist' duties to protect our flowers.

The video was uploaded in December. Is it actually of their car or you're just pointing us to it because the one in the video looks similar?

One minute you are ranting about foreign governments cashing in on our govts stupid decisions as it prices home grown cars out of the market, now you are bitching about protectionist tariffs a bit of consistency wouldnt go astray.

I've always been against import tariffs...

The problem is that our car makers know damn well they don't have to try harder to make a better product, and haven't since the early 1970's.

The biggest giveaway was when Pontiac started selling LHD "Pontiac G8's" which were just converted Commodores...for heaps less than the price we could buy the original car here in Australia. That opened a lot of peoples eyes...

there is no duty (tariffs) on US & Canadian made cars into Aust.

There is GST, but there is GST on Australian cars as well.

There is freight and of course to bring a vehicle in less than 15 yrs of age you will need to own & use it overseas for 12months...this is so you can get the import permit from Department of Enviroment & Transport

cheers

If that's the new Ford family styling that's on it's way here eventually, then they've lost me for a potential customer.....for anything that may resemble it whatever model/vehicle.

Face like a botched boob job..

If that comes here it doesn't matter what price they sell it at. It's not the car Australians want or need. God the American designs are gauche and stupid.

Thanks, I forgot about that one! I do remember that now, it caused a minor stink in the motoring magazines and questions were asked.

I like it. I had a 2004 Explorer, and this looks just as good IMO. Grill is very F250-ish, which for some seems over the top, but I like it.

Why would the price make me want to cry? The Canadian on-road price for the Explorer Limited (2WD) ranges from $45k-$48k depending on province.

This is similar to most other SUVs in Australia?? It may be the same price as a G6 Falcon, but you can get an XR6 Falcon for $34,990 drive away...?
