Default Knock in front left after moderate to hard braking

Hi, I have an au2 that has a knock in the front left.

The pre condition for it is moderate to hard braking. Then when you accelerate it knocks again.

If you brake lightly, it won't knock. You can also accelerate as hard as you like and it won't knock after light braking.

I noticed it also does it when hitting big bumps like a pothole.

I went to my usual mechanic, who put it up on the hoist and said visually everything looked fine.

Car has done 100,000 kms

Thought on what I should try first?

He should have taken it on a hot lap test drive

Another vote for control arm either upper or lower.

You are never going to believe what it was....

there was play in the door hinges so when the nose dived under braking it prompt the knock. Stuck a rag in the door jam and problem solved.

I picked up a new set of hinges on the weekend so will fit them shortly.

Just FYI - I went to Pedders and they told me there were a dozen things wrong with the suspension and wanted $2700 to fix it.

They even suggested upper control arms, which were replaced three years ago and bushes are virgin - I took them out just to prove it to myself.

There is a lesson to be learnt here....think outside the box!

Good to see the problem was found and solved. Nothing worse than a knock or squeak you dont know where to start looking at.

As for Pedders, I go to them for an inspection ONLY. Usually you only do the stuff that needs critical attention. But that is just me. Always get a second opinion. It doesnt hurt.

Pedders have been doing this for years (and getting away with it), when is someone going to be able to stop them from this false reports that they do..

i always hear ppl getting reports from pedders for stupid amounts of money, and most ppl on forums like this, know better than to believe everything they here, but what about the average joe that has no idea and takes his family car there because he has seen there ad on tv??

what a crock

p.s glad to hear you fixed your issue... what a weird one

Strangely enough, whenever anyone has a front end related problem, the first thing members do is recommend Pedders, yet it's well documented on here how that company rips people blind.

As for going to them for an inspection? Why waste $14 or $28 dollars, when you know that you're going to get a report as long as your arm. I know where the inspection money would be better off.

Please read the manual carefully, as the these manufacturers spent millions of dollars making sure it is perfect.....Now why are there so many problems with my car, when I follow the instructions to the letter?....Answer, majority rules round here

Lock me up and throw away the key because I'm a hoon....I got caught doing 59 in a 60 zone
