Mining companies are already buying Rams off Chrysler Australia, but in unregisterable LHD form.

Aussie delivered F250s with 100,000km are worth more than what they were bought for new.

Interesting but there are alot of if's and maybe's in that story. There is one maybe though that is a certainty and that is it WILL NOT be sold for $30k. Why would they when Ranger, Hilux et al sell for what they do?

I was just looking F250's on Carsales the other day and they are priced up to $100000. You can buy a new converted one for $130 odd so why buy the old one?

Probably because the used ones are the Aussie delivered and so are factory RHD. I remember my local Ford dealer selling them for 65,000 or so brand new. Would have been a good investment (for a car).

Many years ago while Gobert was away racing in the States he loaned me his 8-litre v-10 Dodge Ram while I was in Sydney, what an absolute behemoth! Why would anyone want to drive them on the roads in the cities or near the cities is beyond me!

This is true, but what a pox "factory" conversion job they did, some of the aftermarket guys have done a better job.

ie/ The glovebox, gear lever, knobs which are just all wrong, looked really poor job for the money, but thats cost-cutting-ford at work yet again...

Lets hope my F150 is done nice & neat, i can be [and should be] fussy!

The Ram 1500 now has an 8 speed and will soon offer the 3.0L V6 CRD from the Grand Cherokee. It accelerates quicker than the Hemi in the Grand Cherokee!
Hopefully Australia will also get the 2500 model with the big 6.7L Cummins I-6.

It could even be worth Ford setting up a little sideline business importing the F250 and converting them to RHD in the at the Falcon factory.

they weren't converted they were made in Brazil which is right hand drive also, we would still be getting them if brazil still made them.

Brazil still has them. I think they only have a basic manual single cab with a gutless 3.9L I-6 Cummins (which replaced the 4.2). BTW, Brazil drives on the right hand side of the road (LHD).

IF they brought a converted F150 in here, and IF they could build it up to a standard that Australians found acceptable (look, realistically, they're not a quality vehicle in the states, they're a workhorse built down to a price, cheap & easily replaced every few years), then I would wager the price would "start" up near $80,000 plus.
Look at the 300C Chrysler...in the states, they're seen as not a luxury prestige vehicle, more like a Commodore or Falcon. A V6 one starts down around $28,000. Here the "cheapest" is high-$40,000's to $50,000. It has to be sold here as a "prestige model" which kills it for the ordinary guy.

It would be the same with the F150. Go to a US website and look at the pricing of any of the big trucks...some of them are stupidly cheap, F250's, Rams, Chev's, they're all just a big work truck, some with a bit of a comfy interior, but still not the best built or handling thing on the road.

The F100 used to sell very well here...but I think if you plonked one down nowadays to a public used to many years of the comfort and build standards and standard features of Japanese makes like Hilux, Landcruiser, Patrol, Triton, etc, they would blanch at the overpriced American truck, some of which are, to be blunt, too big for our roads, parking lots, and city streets. Some of them, to be brutally honest as well, have staggering fuel "economy" that would take a real culture change for Australians to accept.

Port of Brisbane has a nice collection of brand new LHD Rams, F150s and Silverados all lined up for delivery to whom ever has ordered them

Also saw a couple of LHD Jeep Grand Cherokees

Do yourself a favour, go and drive a TD 4.2 cruiser or patrol and see how bad the fuel consumption is. Yes a 3.0 tdi patrol pushing 2.5 tonne is better but who wants to blow holes in pistons every 100k.
The Jap utes are the most over priced vehicles on the market, with standard features such as drum brakes, a CD player and rear leg room suited for kids... a Silverado/F250/Ram will kill them for comfort and specs, and all things relative, are more economical.
