im proud to announce that very soon i will be the owner of an 220kw rebel, i could not stand it anymore as great as the turbo is i just could not bond with that car at all and i missed my organza au. so i went and found a nice example rebel which im looking at tomoro.
the turbo is staying in the family my missus bought it of me so goodbuy hyundai. i will be part of the auvians once more and will never desert them again. your thoughts and what i should look out for ENGINE wise would be great.

Awesome. Welcome back. Hope the Rebel works out for you (if you end up buying it). Not aware of any significant items to look out for on the 220. Generally, I think you will find they are pretty bullet proof. I would of course be checking the obvious - the oil, oil leaks etc.
Good luck Stu

awesome pick up George. Well done. Where are the pics dammit???????
The 220kw versions are the hand built engine versions yes? As far as I am concerned these and the T-series are the V8's you want in the AU's. Hope you enjoy. That said, I am not surprised about the turbo. I have heard a lot of prodigal sons returning to the AU fold after spending rumspringer in a B series.

i had a chance to buy a pristine v8 au a while ago, i bought something else instead, kicking myself now, as above they are a pretty straight forward car, general wear and tear, oil leaks, servicing, etc, good luck with it.

I still miss my AU-2 220, was a great car and I should have kept it.
My eldest boy now has my BA turbo and I was thinking maybe a T3 as a toy for the weekends. |

Nice.
Check the au v8 thread for all the common issues. They do weep oil from where the dipstick enters the sump, the coil packs are a known issue, so are the rear upper shock mounts. Another thing to listen for are valve springs, the 220's break them. Apart from those cheap and easy items they're pretty bullet proof. That is unless you stroke them to a 347 and go a little nuts

Check for a clean cooling system/receipts for coolant changes. The timing cover can corrode out behind the water pump if muppets never change the coolant or run straight tap water, then you end up with a sump full of coolant. Pretty bulletproof if maintained though.

Radiator leaks down the plastic tanks on sides, Cam shaft sychroniser, thermostat switch and gasket, loose steering due to heat from extractors, window switches, shakes from harmonic balancer, windscreen leaks from old silicon, sagging roof lining and all of those mentioned.

But you cannot beat the raw sound of a V8. blow off valves, turbo's superchargers are all well and good, but you are just substituting the sound for the real thing......a V8

Yeah, sorry, that came across a bit rude. AU's are better, XR8 220's are better again! So, yeah, still lame, but congrats either way!

Rebels never came out in Galaxy Blue, or any blue for that matter.
Shame he got the advert wrong, but yeah, clearly not a rebel or a 220kw from those pics. http://www.carsales.com.au/private/d...-2001-12754298
