What marks do you have lined up?
I assume you are using a timing light........

is it auto or manual

try about 8 deg BTDC for manual & 12 for an auto
if it pings pull it back a bit.

Make sure the balancer hasnt slipped....

Yeh the popping noise is when I am stopping at lights but not sure about down gears cause my te is a auto , and when we had the rocket cover off a few weeks ago my old man marked TDC on the fly wheel I think it is , I lined up top dead centre with the 3marks on the motor it is perfectly lined up with centreone but sounded **** one of my mates advanced it a little more witch got rid of the flat spot I had on xlration (mind my spelling ) and sounded smooth as ,but now more pre ex notion , I bought a second hand redline intake manifold and it has a carby witch looks just like a 350 Holley ,can not remember what the brand was ,and it has bugger all markings on it , but the bloke said it runs sweet as , going to put that on today ,and see how she goes , there is no need for the heater box any more so I will get rid of that , and plate up the hole when I have removed it , just sick of that little stromburg single barrel , I will post about how I go but thanks for your help winton ,redxm

If its popping out the exhaust you might won't to lift the rocker cover and check the valves, sounds like one may have dropped, if this is the case eventually it will drop in to the motor if left,.
