Question Does this work or is it BS?

My wife saw this on Facebook .. Does it work or is it BS?

Have you locked your keys in the car?

If your car has remote keyless entry? This may come in handy someday.. Good reason to own a mobile phone:

If you lock your keys in the car and the spare keys are at home, call someone at home on their mobile phone from your mobile phone.

Hold your mobile phone about a foot from your car door and have the person at your home press the unlock button, holding it near the mobile phone on their end. Your car will unlock.. Saves someone from having to drive your keys to you. Distance is no object. You could be thousands of miles away.

I call BS but have not tried it .. What do you guys think?

I thought it might work myself years ago and tried it, but my methodology was bad and got a positive, but in reality it was a failure., some other forumers tried it too....... result, a failure.

My wife locked the keys in the car while the car was UNlocked.

AU Wagon with a cargo barrier. Cabin is unlocked but keys were placed in the rear of wagon and tailgate slammed shut! Tried dash button to open tailgate but no go.

One very long nicely bent piece of wire did the trick. Eventually.

It does work... but you need to do the chicken dance at the same time while wearing boxer shorts on the outside.

Trust me!

This is an easy one. The remote keyless system of a vehicle operates around the 300 - 400MHz range (300 - 400 million Hz). So we first need the microphone in the mobile phone to pickup this frequency. I am not sure exactly what the frequency response of a mobile phone mic would be but a random mic from AKG (C414 XLII) that I found, which costs $1,000+ can record up to 20KHz (20,000Hz), or the limit of human hearing, so there is not a chance any mobile phone would pickup anything above this professional grade mic, let alone get near the million Hz range, talk about over engineering!

I'll stop there; but of course the speaker itself, circuitry and mobile network wouldn't produce / allow or transmit anything remotely near that frequency.

I wish people who post this stuff on Facebook all the time believing it to be the gospel truth would make a quick stop to Snopes.com first...practically every "health warning" or "advice" posting you get on there has been debunked thoroughly long ago...

This is just like the notice going around telling people if you are ever in trouble put your pin number in backwards at an ATM and the police will be called.

WHat about if your Pin number is 9999, you would be calling the police everytime you enter it.

Or if your car has an auto-lock function.

Girlie and I came out of the movie theatre one night, unlocked the car, she put her hand bag on the seat with keys inside.

Started canoodling then *chunk* <blinkers flash>.

"Did you just lock the car?"

"No, did you?"

"No."

"uh oh"

Had to call a friend, drive all the way back to her place grab the spare, then come back. And yep, the key and remote were in her bag. On the front seat.

Exactly...it's simple: why would mobile phones be designed to emit frequencies that are far above or far below the average human hearing thresholds? Why would the manufacturers go to the expense for no reason? One moments thought on the subject will let you know it's just another bogus piece of what I like to call "Facebook Approved Advice"...

Auto-lock shouldn't work once a door has been opened.
