Unhappy Is Manflu real?

My 15 month old boy got a cold/flu/bug last week, he gave it to my wife who has now given it to me.
The problem is that inbetween my wife and me it has mutated into something half way between Black Plague and AIDS.
My wife says "it's just Manflu" and I just reply "not just Manflu! Manflu is a real and deadly disease!" and then go back to wallowing in my self pity and a pile of tissues.
She just doesn't understand the true nature of Manflu.

Anyone here agree with me?

What is manflu? Seriously.

I thought it was a term women used when a man was sick and should be more masculine and not show signs of sickness and move on?

Yes; us men are wimps when it comes to the flu and there is supporting scientific evidence see http://www.nature.com/nri/journal/v1...l/nri2773.html

Quote:
Men may have weaker immune systems than women and suffer disease more seriously and for longer, say scientists at the University of Cambridge, UK. The study, published in the Proceedings of the Royal Society B: Biological Sciences (24 Mar 2010), gives scientific credence to the phenomenon colloquially referred to as 'man flu' and suggests that “Maybe men aren't just playing sick, but really are more susceptible” (The Times, 24 Mar 2010).
But women may take a differnt view http://books.google.com.au/books?hl=...flu%22&f=false

and http://www.telegraph.co.uk/health/he...scientist.html

Quote:
Dr Amanda Ellison, a neuroscientist as Durham University, said that men really do suffer more with coughs and colds despite being accused of exaggerating symptoms to gain sympathy.

She said men have more temperature receptors in the brain which causes them to experience the symptoms more acutely than women.

The difference is in the area of the brain which balances a variety of bodily mechanisms, including temperature.

The area is the same size in children, but when boys hit puberty testosterone starts to act on the area, known as the preoptic nucleus, making it larger.

Dr Ellison, 38, a senior lecturer at Durham, said: "When you have a cold one of the things that happens is you get an increase in temperature to fight off the bugs.

"The bugs can't survive at higher temperatures. When your immune system is under attack the preoptic nucleus increases temperature to kill off the bugs.

"But men have more temperature receptors because that area of the brain is bigger in men than women.

"So men feel rougher when they have a temperature – and if they complain they feel rough then maybe they're right."

Dr Ellison, sets out her argument in her book, Getting Your Head Around the Brain, focusing on the difference between the minds of men and women.

The original research methods involved the study of brains in post mortem as well as images obtained from scans.

"My research is on how different parts of the brain communicate with each other," she continued.

"My role is to put two and two together. There is no hard evidence that the feelings are worse in males than in females. This is a possible cause – but the argument will rage on.

"It is part of the whole argument about the differences between men and women and how their behaviour can be influenced by differences in their brains."

Yup, I reckon it's real. I tend to be pretty robust for the most part but when I do get sick I tend to go down like a on of bricks and turn into a moaning, groaning puddle of snot and phlegm for a couple of weeks. I'm still fighting off the last bout and this is the end of week 2.

Women go through the pains of labour, so a head cold to them is nothing.

"You just have a different perspective on pain cause you have pushed something the size of a watermelon out of a hole the size of a lemon."

It's called man-flu because only men get it - good thing too as a woman would never survive it.

They think we are weak as they have never experienced one and can only compare it to a common cold.
