Don't the police get extra training to able do things that are illegal for us mere mortals. At least that's what they tell us.

Well Fme - and the same bloke would stand in front of a bullet for ya tomorrow. He could be one of the best blokes goin, everyone makes mistakes - get over it mate, look at it as good entertainment and a laugh FFS.
Ride with some of these blokes and blokettes, the dangers they put themselves in and what they see defies belief. |

it is amazing how some people are happy to stand back and criticise police, but the same people will be the first to ring police when something goes wrong for them
Was there an extreme emergency on the other side of the flood-way that required immediate police attendance - of course the OP wouldn't know that because he was so blinded by looking for something the police did wrong that he missed that point

WooHoo! time to dig out the pitch forks, burning torches and noose....
Nothing like a good lynch mob get together, especially when it comes to stringing up a cop or two........

I would drive my VY SS ute through creeks all the time, water came over the windscreen wipers a few times, but she made it through every time, would of been better with an auto because the manual has a high 1st gear and some big rocks were hidden under their as they were a bit of a worry if you stalled hitting one.
But you know one has to be experienced in such things, not just some fool who knows nothing and drives in like many do nowadays and that's why we now have the Law not to do such, it's for all the fools that know nothing and that's most people. I walked through that creek before I took it on and in the time that she lapped the windscreen, it was like I have to get out of here or I am stuck for days out in nowhere from anyone and bugger all food and them there creeks can get mighty high with what was coming down and a fat mate insisted to cook brecky before we went, I said f you I am out of here directly, that stupid mate once ate one of his dogs leg out there so the story goes, he was telling some kids who asked why his dog only had 3 legs and no tail, well the tail was not eaten, because it was a stumpy tail blue. I have been caught out like that before and put faith in a mate that once lived in the area, it was only fairy's rain coming down but as far as you could see all around and wham oh f me dead them creeks came up fast and rain for 3 days stuck out there. If the creek is running to fast and too deep you will be sweep away for sure. |

Police probably well aware of the risks (especially with 4 of them in the car) but needed to get some where urgently.
you just don't know.

I’m not too sure it was a causeway, looked like an intersection, woulda been good for a laugh, I’m sure they’re still laughin about it and the driver will be the brunt of a few jokes for a while

Given the NSW police chief was on the news lambasting ordinary motorists for being stupid for driving through floodwaters, should he not hold the same or higher standard for his own officers?
it wasn't a 'mistake' it was a bad decision.

Hardly a dangerous situation. Driving through standing water; more inconvenience than anything.
Sure he drove too fast, and lost the bow wave effect, but as others hve said, he was out there trying to do his job.

I had an XB Wagon one time that was able to drive through high creeks. After that had an XC Sedan that was hopeless at it. Go figure.

Yeah- probably police just driving to a job, went through water and became deeper, panicked and went to fast driving into bow wave causing water to be sucked into intake.
Police just people who make mistakes like general people. I often read about people driving through flood water and think how stupid- I would never do. But couple years ago was driving to go rock climbing at Arapiles (outside Horsham) in Victoria, massive floods and I was driving this way and that way trying to get around road closures. Anyway, came to this section- no road signs saying closed-and it did not look too deep. Started driving through it and it was far more distance than I thought, then started getting deeper gradually and then quite alarmingly deep and by that time I thought of stopping and reversing but was worried about traction and water flow and loss of momentum so was committed and kept plowing on. Had drivers window down and was ready to bail and was looking for trees etc to aim for when swimming. Absolutely crapped myself but got through- hire Kia did well.... Big 4wd was watching and when I got through he came across, and I got out on otherside to calm nerves and took shot. People miscalculate-no one is immune from that....

After the footage I’ll even downgrade it to a ‘nothing’. Each to their own. The NSW police chief will more likely play the footage at the end of year Christmas party
