Hi. There seem to be two types available in Vic, the ones that neighborhood watch supply from Vicpol that have a small flat in one place around the edge. They seem to be hardened and also have a slight taper on the sides which makes them impossible to grab with vice grips etc. If you have this type talk to your local police man and they should be able to tell you who has the tool to undo them. The other type have been sold by auto parts stores for a number of years and have no flat on them but are a little softer and I have found that a good pair of sidecutters will bite on to them to let you unscrew them. Cheers MD

The angle grinder works. You odd not need to be too aggressive as they mostly screw into plastic. Just need a nice new/sharp flat bladed screwdriver pressed firmly into the new slot. I had to remove mine after a trip to the Alice (fitted for obvious reasons).

I don't know why they call it a security screw, as in the one way screws they put on at shopping centres etc, anyone can buy the kit to remove them, this is what we use at work as we come across them fairly often

The local Police Station will have the right attachment. I sent my sister to them to change her plates.

that's what I used, a 4" angle grinder with a thin blade and just made a slot in the head and used a flat blade screw driver

Was told a while ago how to remove these.
Makes all of my posts look like I'm a computer numpty by deleting all of the spacing and punctuation and grouping the sentences together without spaces. Grrrrr
