Default Best Exhaust/CHIP combo

What would be the best exhaust system, paired with a chip for maximum KW gain and economy? Im thinking JMM dev 1 + unichip? or dev1 + chiptorque?, there are so many systems/chips out there...

Jmm is a good choice. Unichip or chiptorque will do the job whatever tickles your fancy.Casper has done ther chip challenge on AUFALCON.COM.worth a look in.

Caspers advice to me is to go for the chiptorque - he is very happy with it. Both in terms of performance gain and bang for buck. So I guess this would apply to you too. And the JMM race series are his pick of extractors for the VCT I6. For me (being non-VCT), pacemakers will do. PH4480s are the best or PH4499 (which I have) will do the job well too.

Ok, so jmm and chiptorque it will probably be then.. Does jmm sell chiptorque? im planning on getting it done all in the one area with install of everything. Or is it best for me to get the dev 1 kit from jmm and then go somewere else for the chip torque? what are the locations around victoria that do this?

Seriously, chiptorque or unichip is going to do the business.
My preference was chiptorque (this has been discussed before many times) but the unichip is good too.

If I was going to do it all again I would not change a thing on my car, happy with it all. As for chips, I plan to keep the chiptorque for parameter changes (rev/cutout limiters etc) and place one of the new JMM interceptor computers over the top for extreme tuning (and in preporation for the SC in a few years)

Does it make a difference in which one you get first, eg. get the jmm dev1 first then get the chip so it is tuned for it in mind or if i get the chip first does it automaticly recognise a change if i get the dev1 later?

It would probably need a retune. You're probably better off getting both in at the same time.

Save your chipping until you've done everything with the engine+exhaust first. Otherwise when you change something eg cam, you'll need a retune.

A chiptorque "off the shelf" retune is less than $100 - a custom tune may be more than that, so if you do need it retuned, it's not really going to break the bank.

hmm well it seems like a good idea then to go dev1 and thne go the chip.. i think the chiptorque is alot more cheaper too, 595$ from the website and ive looked around for unichip and they are 1000$+. If amberley autos dont do them then who else does?

Mine was fitted as part of the chip challenge so when I bought one a few months later I just had to slip it into the ECU and throw it on the dyno to check the tune was ok. I was lucky, install cost me nothing in the end.

Well, firstly you have to deciede if its even worth it. Personally, based on the tune in my car now, I would not bother with mine, I doubt it would make much of a difference.
If you get a chiptorque. Buy it, fit it and put it on a dyno to check out the tune. Then, if you really think it may be worth it, you would need to contact Lachlan and find out when he's coming to Melb next and then book a time for him to tune it.

This sounds like such a pain in the ****. Is there any reason why they don't have authorised re-tuners ???

I know JMM fit the unichip, but they wouldnt fit the chiptorque if i bought it and asked them to install it then dyno tune etc..adjust it. Would they do it or a definate no since they sell the unichip?

Well, when I finally got my chiptorque I never fitted it (even though it was a 30 second job to do so as the ECU had been pre prepped during the chip challenge) until the car was on a dyno to make sure the A/F was acceptable - which it was (pretty much perfect actually).

Now who do you think was running the dyno I was on? Hint... it was in Altona!

As for "tuning it", only Lachlan can do that!

ok so JMM can fit it on for me and dyno it, but not tune it. Is there really much difference with the tuning? any major gains?

I'd be more worried about some of the turbo I6's out there. I doubt I'll push mine much over 250rwkw with a supercharger. Dans turbo AU already has that and he hasnt even turned up the wick yet!

Besides, I dont do traffic light drags :P
