*FINALLY* saw the Mythbusters episode with the pole-vaulting Fury!!
Not that I'm biased or anything ('69 Dodge Phoenix, '70 Plymouth Fury 'vert), but how indestructable is the old 383/Torqueflite-powered C-Body Mopar ... MANY attempts of 35mph drive-to-reverse with no ill effects. Even when they finally punched the tailshaft into the "pot-hole", it threw back into the trunk, but the old girl kept on rolling .. and running. A proud day for old Mopars |

Sensational show. But I'm not 100% convinced of the busted ruling on the pole vaulting fury episode tonight. Only because I'm sure given the right circumstances and a heavy duty tailshat like what resides under most race cars where tailshaft loops are required that it could indeed flip a car. Say a much more powerful car that weighs half as much and the tailshaft catching on something *above* the ground....
Still a damn good to watch them work! |

Some of thier myths are not BUSTED. I got a few black label cans of cola for a long trip an sat them in the back window of my dads EF. They were left in direct sunlight for a few hours. After that we went for a drive, just as we got to the servo dad took off from the lights and bang. COLA allover the back seat.
They had to heat it to a temperature in a non-moving oven before it exploded. But they were trying to blow it in a car.

Did you like the part where the Fury took off out-of-control, ploughing thru a chainlink fence with Adam sitting in the back seat!! [ O/T: I had a '65 Dodge Phoenix which punched a petrol pump 3feet sideways (long story .. don't ask!) and it slightly bent the bumper! ] |

I'm still waiting for the ep where adam uses kari's bum for a model of something...
I find it great that if they can't prove something, they'll blow it up anyway I missed the last part of the shark ep... but what was the final verdict on shooting a tank of oxygen while it was in the sharks mouth? busted i'd say.... |

Imagine it at 55mph (highway speed in the US) over a rough road... it would have to flip the car! But it'd very difficult to duplicate in a controlled environment.

Actually I had an idea on how you could do the tailshalf myth at higher speed which would be guaranteed to work.
Get the car to drive up a kerb/step at speed (with a ramp for each wheel) drop the tailshaft before approaching the kerb and bang, guaranteed the shaft would wedge itself into the kerb.

Re The tailshaft, I rolled an XT ute that way.
I lost an axle at 100Km/h, dropping the diff u bolts onto the dirt. When they eventually broke the diff moved back, the tailshaft dropped out of the gearbox, dropped on the ground and pivoted the ute onto it's roof. Not and experience I'd like to repeat. This was on a gravel road so that may have given the tailshaft better grip. Regards, Tote

Lol what i meant about the blinged up lancers wasnt related to the tailshaft thingy hahaha. I just wouldnt mind a coupla of blocks of C4 underneath it. Actually wouldnt mind see some blocks strapped to the foundations of the Mitsubishi plant all together lol.

I can't see how that myth was busted, it lifted the car at least a metre and a half in the air. At a higher speed and the right conditions I think it is certainly possible to totally flip it.
Did anyone else see that dude try to show off to the chicks by bunny hopping that bike over the little red wagon, and eating sh*t big time right on his face. What a classic. |
