G'day All
Found this site recently and think it's magic. I need help if possible for the following problem. I removed the centre facia console on my AU Forte, section which houses the heater controls and vents, painted it black and it looks great. The only problem is now my heater does not work. I think it may be due to me not clipping the cable from the heater dial back into position. When removing the facia I did not notice it so this is a guess. Before I remove the facia again does anyone know if this correct? |

When you say it doesn't work, what do you mean. ie Does the fan blow, but only cold air. Does it blow only on face - controls won't move to windscreen setting, etc.
If the fan blows, but no hot air comes out (after engine is warmed up, obviously), then you have lost or broken the clip that holds the cable sheath still. Without this clip, the whole cable, including sheath, moves, which effectively does nothing. You need to find/buy and reinstall the clip, or do the "JC mod" for this - drill a hole in the bit of plastic that the clip clips onto, and then use a cable tie to hold the cable in position.

Thanks JCXR8 for the confirmation. Fan works, air blows as directed, except has no heat. therefore I will have to do as you suggest and secure the cable. Much appreciated.

You were right JCXR8. I twisted a piece of wire to the clip on the cable and then secured it all to a bracket behind the dash. Tricky with limited room to move as all the components were still attached to the console. But it now works. I have heat.

Pictures of painted console. Flash on digital makes it look more shiny than it really is.
