i had in mind to paint my rocker cover red becuase i thought it would look good with the car.
however i have just considered that the XR series have red rocker covers. i'm not trying to immitate or represent my car as tickford in any way. my question is, would it be looked upon with disrespect if i were to paint it red? other colour suggestions?

What colour is your actual car??? I seen someone on the w/end had painted their rocker cover white to match their car, that looked pretty good.

Nothing wrong with a red rocker cover, they look better and lift the look of the engine bay, I had a red rocker on my EA Ghia, no big deal.
Colour coding it to match the car can look really nice as well.

I wouldn't paint it reed due to looking like you copied XR covers.
There are plent of other colours to choose from.

Mate, as an XR6 owner I can say that I have no issue with you painting it red. Adding a Tickford or XR6 badge is a different story but just painting it red.. no big deal. Just think how many people paint their brake calipers red.... I'm betting they dont all have brembos :
If it looks good then do it. The very fact that you are concerned and dont want to misrepresent the engine tells me that you will make a point of not pretending its an XR6 engine anyhow.

On a serious note - A coloured rocker cover does lift the look of the engine bay, but red is overdone. I think colour coding it with the car, or painting it a nice ford blue (VHT Ford Competition Blue would be my pick) is different, and far cooler.

heres a pic of my rocker cover, cost me 100bux. if you zoom in you can sort of make out the lemons on the tree. lifts the enitre look of the engine bay imo.
other wise red is a good colour apparently it also makes your car rev harder too. but i wouldnt paint the higher parts white, i would sand them and try to polish them and clear coat it. Ehab

Colour coding is good! Here's how my rocker cover turned out. I painted it before the AU motor went in, just take your time and the results are excellent!

Looks nice though. If there's anything more satisfying than seeing a nicely detailed car it's seeing a nicely detailed engine bay. Problem with Ford's is, trying to keep it oil free ;p Even my ba started leaking from the front of the rocker cover after 6000km.
