hey all..
just a small problem thats starting to annoy: When in a gear (1,2,3) at traffic speeds, if i stay in gear with my foot off the throttle, the car begins to "hop" "hiccup" or however you want to put it, as if i were jumping on and off the accelerator or brake... ive done the leads, plugs, clutch, etc, so that isnt the problem.. i'm thinking dizzy, but i took the cap off tonight to find no play in the rotor button? but could the bushes still be buggered? could it be a fuel filter (highly unlikely) or could it be injectors? i am honestly stumped. should i just change the bush on the dizzy and see what happens? there are no other problems whatsoever, no problems up high or in motion or missing or anything.. thanks, santo

try giving the isc a good clean with carby cleaner, make sure you leave it to dry fully. Change ya fuel filter to if it hasn't been done in a while, they're only like 10 bucks or so.

are you sure its the engine and not just the driveline jerking when you let off the throttle?

i'd say all manuals do it i havent been in a manual that doesnt do it wen ur just crawling along coz they get direct drive the clutch cant diengage itself like in an auto so it jerks instead even manual volvos do it its just something u have to put up with i have been u will never fix it unless u go auto.

yeah it would be when you tip in. So your driving along (rolling), then while in gear you accelerate and it shudders? Either not enough revs are its the clutch..or both.
To stop it try this. When rolling, say in 3rd, when you go to tip in clutch in before and bring the revs up then lt the clutch ut instead of just tipping in straight away.

It's more driveline related than anything else Santo, but it can be fuel. My old EA did it heaps with a CFI fuel pump just after I converted to MPI, but it still did it a bit after I changed the pump.
I noticed heaps of difference when I changed the engine mounts, uni-joints and rear trailing arm bushes. The whole driveline felt tight as anything, and changing gears required a lot less concentration and planning lol. Sundeep |

Mine does it around 40km/h in second. I think it's the revs like suggested.......

If there was no slack in the driveline though, Luke, it wouldn't bash around.

guys read!
clutch is brand new, trailing arms are new... the trailing arms fixed it a hell of a lot. today i took out the fuel filter and put in a new one, which i think has solved the problem.. opened the filter up and it was black. it isnt a case of being to slow for the gear im in... i think it was all a fuel filter prob... see how i go!

lol it wont be fuel. You'd know if it was a fuel problem. How old is the clutch? What kind of clutch? Did you run it in properly or were you being a choc?

I changed my fuel filter and it seems to have fixed a majority of the "hopping." I still have other issues though, but that's normal for me :P
Oh, I also changed lead number one as I noticed it making contact with the rocker cover. I think this made the biggest difference.

yea number one has a tendency to ИИИИ up..
what you mean making contact with rocker cover? check the lead going to the coil as well as it has a tendency to short out or arc against earth..
