Default Ford Spare Parts Heard Any Stories?

Anyone heard of a Dealer in Victoria who has 3 Ford dealerships recently got busted for selling non-genuine parts as genuine Ford parts.
Apparently they were having Ford packaging manufactured to pack the non-genuine parts in.
Don't name any dealers as these are unsubstantiated claims, just interested in knowing if anyone else has info or heard anything about this?

It has been a widespread practice through certain sections of the industry for some years now and it is good to see these shonky operators getting what they deserve.

I have a Ford Escape.
Recently I had the car in for a coolant flush. I was informed the top tank/resovoir was cracked and needed replacing. I was quoted $309 for the tank alone for the dealer. I could not afford it there and then so I asked them not to do that and i would get it replaced when I could afford it. I called 2 other ford dealerships, one quoted rec retail was $250, another quoted rec retail was $210. I then tried a Mazda dealership as the escape and Tribute are the same car. Mazda genuine part $135. I think Ford dealers up thier prices way too much anayway.

Interesting Mark, and really a bit stupid - a few extra $$$ vs a whole heap of consequences (incidentally I wonder what Ford would do about this?)

Yaw - when there is that situation you find some parts are cheaper in one brand, others in the other.

I have gotten parts from E bay, that are in 'Genuine' boxes but the product is aftermarket - Wonder where he gets the boxes from as they are new.

Hi John, you talk to people who have been in this industry they say its been going on for years...
I was told yesterday I well known insurance company was using used car parts on repaired vehicles around 10 years back they had a wreckers in Deer Park and were fitting used parts on cars, the owners were thinking they had new parts...After being exposed it was shut down.
Lucky I am not with them... _2:

The insurance companies are normally fairly up-front about this. Whenever you get a quote from a panel beater there will be to-and-fro with the insurance companies who challenge them to use second hand parts (good condition mind you) where possible

Insurance companies also encourage the use of non-genuine (headlights for example)

All this genuine parts thing is overrated anyway. How many of these parts do Fotd/Holden etc actually make themselves? Priced a clutch for our EB XR8 years ago through Ford and the parts person actually asked if I was sitting down Was over $700??? Got a clutch kit through Autobarn for just over $300 and surprise surprise when I took the original one out it was exactly the same brand clutch anyway

Ford Australia would be concerned if...
How would you feel if you had an automatic gearbox at a FORD dealer for warranty and the dealer repaired it with non-genuine Taiwanese parts.

i tend to agree
how meny parts do you actualy think ford themselfs make and how much was sub'ed out and marketed as ford eg bolts nuts brakes clutches ect ect
there are companies out there that build these parts for the motor industry and sell the same part to a company and sell it after market (dont get me wrong there are cheep imitations out there)
but for example im getting a supercharger from the states (ford us for muy ba) but its a whipple and can buy the same kit from whipple (is cheeper from ford) and ford are/have droped them from producing them because they currently cant produce enogh quantity so there going to eaton now :

I work in the insurance industry. You will notice the wording in almost all product disclosure statements state They will use wording to this affect:

if we authorise repairs with your chosen
repairer, we will
 choose the most suitable repair
method for the type of damage to
your vehicle
 repair your vehicle using
• new parts, or
• parts consistent with the age and
condition of your vehicle
 guarantee the workmanship on
repairs for the life of your vehicle

That passage is from NRMA

No where does it guarantee new parts will be used.

The particular company I work for states It will use only Genuine parts.
And yes that can mean used parts that are to the original manufactueres standard.

I don't know of a single insurer that guarantees new parts will always be used, because most of the time they expect panel beaters to repair the exisiting ones........(shock horror.....imagine that, actually needing to use the skills of thier trade)

This aren't unsubstantiated claims SpoolMan?? I read in the paper about 2 weeks ago that a well known Melbourne Ford dealer (I want to mention them but I wont because your thread says not to, but I don't know why??) was raided and investigated over this.

It was in the Herald Sun maybe 7-10 days ago.

Ive had it the other way. Ford being cheaper than Mazda, depends on part required.

VDO fuel pumps are what Ford sell for e series and charge $240+ for, while theres VDO pumps in Goss boxes for under $150 at Coventry and Car Bitz. Repco do fuel misers.

Actually, 1 of the Ford dealers (of the 3) involved in this scam was also involved in a stolen car racket that was busted @7 or 8 years ago, in the Moorabin/Braeside area (with 3 other wreckers, 1 of which was a customer of mine) although most of the blame went to their management within their own wrecking yard & the dealer got away relatively unscathed, until now. This has been going on for a very long time (among other as yet uncovered shady dealings & price fixing). It really makes trying to make an honest living much more difficult within my industry (you only have to see whats on e-bay to see what I mean), but at least I don't profess to be the "greatest headlight dealer in the free world"............... :

Mark definitely aware of the insurance situation. I also agree with jd dad, I am happy to buy parts from Ford suppliers rather than through Ford, or other reputable part makers, but I'm not really keen on the cheap & nasty stuff on grounds of false economy.
