Just checked it.. its correct. Only variation is that the AU1's cluster doesnt show any confirmation.. but it does still work.

no, factory set is adapt. If you reset the ECU thats what it will return to.

Yep, all the dash lights come on.

So its:
Stop the vehicle, apply Park Brake and turn Ignition Off (completely)

Apply Foot Brake and move gear selector to:

1 for Maximum Performance Mode
2 for Maximum Economy Mode
3 for Adaptive Shift Strategy

Turn the ignition On (till the dash lights up) and wait for the air bag warning light to turn off

Move the selector to "R" and wait for the segment on the cluster to confirm the mode selected:

(Not sure if you will see this in XR's only for T series)

PEF - Maximum Performance Mode
ECO - Maximum Economy Mode
ADP - Adaptive Shift Strategy

Return gear selector to "P" and start the engine.

adaptive shift is ECU controlled. Any AU auto can do it if the ECU is an XR program.

makes more sense than a different gearbox.

I can't see how a Manual box can have its shift patterns controlled by a computer, so I'd say yes

only if you have "adaptive shift" which is controlled by the ECU.

so if you swapped your ECU for an XR6 HP ecu, then yeah you could have it.

In the series 2 XR ( well in mine anyway ) , no matter what mode you select it will just flash 'econ' just to confirm a change has been made , no 'pwr' or 'adp' icon flashes when selecting these modes nor does an icon stays on the dash after selection, only when selecting economy the economy icon stay lit up on the dash/ there is no icon for adaptive or power mode .

cheers.

Its probably just the T series that it shows the actual selected mode. If I remember right the AU2/3 flashes a different number of times to dictate what mode its in.

so, if it is true that this mode is on a XR ECU, how hard is it to swap them over? I have only ever done ecu swaps on an EA, can i just do a straight swap on my AU, or will it suff up the security and keys?

Thats right , if you have no 'econ' dsiplay on the dash while driving then you either have it in performance or adaptive shift , cheers mate .

Here is the Adaptive mode change procedure for AU2 from the manual
It just worked on mine a few minutes ago

ADAPTIVE SHIFT STRATEGY (WHERE FITTED)

1-Stop the vehicle, apply Park Brake and turn Ignition Off position(0)

2-Apply the foot brake and move gear selector to:
-1 for Maximum Performance Mode
-2 for Maximum Economy Mode
-3 for Adaptive Shift Mode

3-Turn the ignition Key to On (Position II) and wait for the air bag warning light to turn off

4-Move the selector to "R" (reverse)The ECON light will flash 3 times to indicate a successful mode change.

5-Return the gear selector to P (park) and start the engine
Observe the operation of the ECON light to confirm the programming of the correct mode

-One Flash after turning the key to On (Position II) - indicates Maximum Performance Mode is selected

-Continuous illumination - indicates Maximum Economy Mode is selected

-No illumination - indicates Adaptive Shift Mode is selected

6-Programmed modes will remain unless the EEC is reprogrammed as above or the vehicle battery power is removed

i notice in the specs of the BA autos, it says adaptive shift.
would it be the same thing or is it just refering to the manual shift part of the auto?

Yep the same , as in it adapts to your driving style / eg . drive it hard for a while and it will start reving the gear changes out harder , drive it like a grandpa and it will change gears early producing a smooth change.

To go to performance mode ... press the ECON button next to the shifter so the "ECON" display disappears off your cluster ... much easier.
