Any touristy stuff around NE Dandenongs

The Dragon Lady and I are going to spend 3-4days after Christmas in a little hotel in Yarra Glen and I'm curious as to what there is to see in the area.
Other than the Healesville Sanctuary I dont know much about Melb's Nth east.

When holidaying she usually likes visiting places such as nurseries, antique or second hand shops and markets.

- In other words she's a (fairly) normal female who loves to spend big heaps of money on junk to fill up the house and garden....

Mate if your in Yarra Glen the wineries are the main attraction in the area so just get her on the juice and she'll forget about the other stuff, although im pretty sure there's antique shops and the likes in Yarra Glen other than that im not really aware of any attractions bar the wineries!

The wineries sound good to me. As for the visit victoria link, thanks. I did'nt realise Vic has a tourist section, I figured most Victorian income came from speed cameras

Your also pretty close to Mt Dandynong there, heaps of touristy things to do in the dandy's.

Me, I've pretty much always lived about 10 minutes from Yarra Glen and I've only been to one winery there in my life! You'll have to let us know if its any good!

Go up to skyhigh at night (mt dandenong), awesome view. I can't remember what the food from the restaruant is like though, someone else might be able to help out there.

There's waterfalls etc and the ada tree about 40 mins away (and a little walk) if that's also your thing, as well as plenty of other sight-seeing attractions in the mountains. Also good roads to just drive along if you feel like doing that one day.

Wineries are the main thing around here though, unless clubbing with metro's is your thing, then you can head to dirty dakkas on the weekend =P *shudders*

there is also marysville and the falls up there but be carefull its round the corner from the bushfires. go to the wineries visit the old bloke in healsville that sold me the xy and tell hims its still ok!

If she is into the market type, antique, artsy fartsy, nursery stuff, must do the Dandy tourist road though Olinda, Sassafras and then onto Skyhigh as mentioned earlier. Also heaps of devonshire tea stuff along this road with plenty of quaint drinking holes. From Montrose, through the hills to Ferntree Gully. It is a very good drive and you are close from there any way. She will love you for ever, especially after the 40th craft shop!.......My god I am shuddering..........

PS the Skyhigh restaurant is not bad now (all new) but there a nicer smaller places to eat along the way. The views are a must though.

AND, leave your camera at home as you will have plenty of fond driving memories curtesy of Mr Bracks........ :

We were down there a couple of weeks ago for 8 days. Stayed at Mt Buffalo Chalet, a B&B in Bright before moving on down to a B&B in Wandin for a few days We went down to mainly check out the wineries but did stop at Yarra Glenn one morning for a couple of hours and there's an interesting antique store across the road from the Pub. It's quite big and is divided up into sections rented out to individual dealers. Apart from the usual stuff, one or two have some interesting old car parts for sale.

warburton hwy there is heaps of antique and craft shops, there are more closer to warburton. its also a nice drive. the water falls at kinglake are great but i dont know if they would have been affected by the drought. and wineries everywhere.

Thanks for all the help people. I can see that whatever is left on the plastic after Christmas wont be there after Jan 1!
