Default stroker question

Do you have to releave any part of the block to put in the 347 stroker kit in
and will the standard ecu run it. What type of cam should I use in a auto xr8 Is there any tricks or pittfalls in doing this type of conversion.

Not sure what you mean by releave(sp? maybe) but the standard ECU won't run it, unless you get the edit, then it will be fine. Pitfalls many, especially if you are getting it built at a workshop. Take their initial quote and add a few grand to be safe. All in all it is very worth it though.

keep it fairly mild and the ecu will be fine......and then you have the AU Edit which will be fine with it when you want to go further...

yes you have to relieve the block........the rods will clip the bottom of the bores if you dont

as above....add a few grand to what you think it'll cost......

Mine is having issues even with the unichip, and it is pretty mild.

yeah unichip isnt the best solution.........which is why i just sold mine...
should try the AU EDIT out..... ive heard it does wonders on the 8's


ive bought for my car a mustang ECU (my car being pre smartlock, it was plug and play) and will be buying tweecer....(EEC edit)

yes you will find that you will have to releive the block to clear the bottom of the rod. You machine shop should attend to this.

This was when i was installing cam bearings, you can clearly see the notch at the bottom of each bore, H-beams with cap screws as i used need a bit more then I beams.

The problem you will find with the std ECU, if it has not been re-calibrated with the edit, is that it is calculating load based on an engine displacement of 302ci. But being a 347, the EEC will be calculating a much higher load than the engine is actually doing.

At the end of the day, the EEC will command lower ignition advance than if it was properly tuned....which is real bad for power.

The std injectors, and MAF will also be marginal on a mild 347. Thats why the T3's had a higher fuel rail pressure reg, and a larger 80mm MAF (although a 90mm MAF will work fine here as well)....again, you'll want to use the edit to reclibrate the std EEC for these changes as well.

There might be more, but thats all I can think of for now.

So Maybe I should leave it at 302 and just rebuild the bottom end and put a mild cam in and enjoy it as this is my company car I think 347 will take to long to sort out.

Surely a few dollars thrown at it not getting it stroked will get a fair bit more performance from it?
Im not sure i havnt seen anyone just rebuild a tough 302 they all seem to stroke them.

331 kit is the go , rev like crazy and with the right heads breathes better , in win with no notches required normally .

What would be the cost of the 331 stroker and will be better with the standard ecu.
I allready have 2 stroker motors and they do go very well but maybe a tough 302 is the go. are the standard rods and crank up to the task for more hp if so alloy heads and custom intake and cam would make more power.
