A friend of mine just turned up in a Budget rentarocket.
It is the strangest falcon I have ever seen. No badges whatsoever. 16" wheels with "Ghia" centres. BF 6cyl, 4 speed auto. White fairmont style ICC with dual zone. fluffy seats. Sort of a fairmonturaXT. I wonder if Ford are making "bitsa specials" for rentals to run out excess parts? |

Hire car companies would definitely chase the guy up and make him pay/return the car to original if that was the case though.

Probably a case of ford selling bitsa cars to hire mobs to move cars off the lots.

Sounds like a standard Fairmont but without the Fairmont badge on the boot. Theres no such thing as excess parts with Ford, everythings manufactured ona JIT (just in time) basis, so that rules out a bitza.

Sounds better than the Camry re got through a hire company a while back.. white, 4 cyl, auto...
And that was the "free upgrade" they gave us from the manual Corolla we had originally ordered! They thought they were doing us a favour! LOL.

Another interesting observation:
The driver was a friend from Melbourne who is not really a car person, she drives a Landrover Disco at home as she lives in Geelong and has lots of horses to tow around, but she travels all over Australia and is constantly in renta rockets. This one she drove frm Brisbane to sunny coast to Hervey Bay and back to Bris. She reckoned it was the worst new car she has been in, much worse than the commies, 380s, maximas etc that she normally gets. She asked my why I owned a falcon. I let her drive my F6 and she asked me why it felt good to drive but the fairmonturaXT was a giant blob on marbles (her words). She did not even get the F6 into boost, she just trundled around. I drove the fairmonturaXt and it was VERY ordinary. NOT a good advertisment for the product. I hope it was an abberation because if I was "test driving by rental" as some people have been known to do (me included for the BA) then I would NOT buy a falcon based on this car. |

b) I think you are getting a tad bit confused in regards to the pecking order of importance in the Falcon range. For FPV to exist Ford have to sell Falcons well. Dont think for a moment that regular models are no good for your car, they are what 99% of Falcon buyers drive. Remember, your FPV is just a tarted up taxi. Nothing will change that fact. Quote:

Could be a smashed XT that has bits taken off other wrecks to patch it up and get it back on the road. Could also explain why it drives so badly.
