tail shafts are fine in the au's. you might need a stronger one if your goin to be driving over 180km/h for long periods of time, but is all you'll really need is a brace ( so it doesnt act like a grenade when it hits the ground) for the shaft if you drive at that speed...
1350 is a pretty good price, especially if they are changing ratio. does it include speedo calibration? because ford dont sell a speedo gear higher than 3:45 ratio diff...

i got a mate in the tailshaft business.. and to me it sounds high.. but.. it might depend on what materials are used..
he makes custom shafts for all sorts of cars.. including a rx7 with over 700hp atw.. and other 9 second rotories.... |

not sure of the speedo but ill find out.
about the tail shaft when i upgrade to 3.9s my tailshaft will be traveling at a lot faster when doing same speed as before and therefore the damage you may do at 180 i may well do at lower speeds such as in the 140 to 160kph not sure does anyone know when my speed limiter will come in with 3.9s hope that make sense there a guy from ford mods that removed speed limiter for a dyno run and the tailshaft let go at 192 i think and did a **** load of damage. Thanks Jake |

well when i put my 3:45 lsd in the speedo was out massively. i used a GPS to test my actual speed. at 180kmh on the dash i was actually doin 160, so with a 3:9 ratio it will probably be around 140kmh but you wont know unless you get the speedo calibrated. and 140kmh is as fast as you'll go because the dash is telling the comptuer your doing 180 and you get fuel cut.

Any help would be greatly apreciated. Thanks Jake |

140kmh is actually 86.991 mph. im not a fully qualified mechanic yet. so speak to your diff specialist, they will give you the right advice on that matter,

The price is good for the diff swap and a bit high for the tailshaft but .... there are tailshafts and tailshafts.
The stock Tailshaft won't like it if you drive over 140kmh much as it will be spinning like it was at 180 which is why the speed limiter will cut in. two piece tailshafts would be the go but a quality one piece will be a good look. Unless you really road race just street up to speed limits and drag race i would stay with the stock tailshaft and put a hoop around it. For $10 stick a black 23 tooth speedo gear in and that will at least get you across the qtr before the limiter cuts in and get the speedo reading a bit closer to real. |

Ok had a talk to Chris at bluepower today and he reccomends putting in 4.11's or atleast 3.9's or i will be dissapointed with the improvement compared to the outlay he also didnt seem to concerned about the tailshaft.
My questions are how do i correct my speedo with 4.11's and 3.9's?? What will my revs be at with the 3.9's and 4.11's?? Thxs Jake |

just remember when you change the ratio to 4:11 your car will rev at like 3000rpm at 100km/h. so all fuel economy goes out the window...
3:9 will be a better option keeping revs at a reasonable rpm...

Well atm i rev at 1850 at 100k's with 3.08
with 3.7's i think 2240 with 3.9's i think 2342 with 4.11's i think 2468 I worked that out by 1850 divided by current ratio times by new ratio. So how bad would my highway k's at 2468rpm be Thanks Jake |
