Default Removing / Installing Upper Manifold

Hi all.

Well I had an eventful weekend. Last week my phenolic spacer kit turned up, So on friday I decided I would pull the manifold off.
Easier said than done I must say, the bloody thing refused to come off, I had removed all 6 bolts and the thing wouldn't budge, and after doing one before, I couldn't understand why, as the other had just lifted straight off. This time it took 3 blokes 2 hours to remove.

Anyway as you can see, a lot of effort ended up being needed, I don't know why anyone would f*%cking stick the mongrel down but they have. :

In any case, while it was off, I decided to finish polishing it. I started Friday night, and had finished polishing the manifold, throttlebody & Maf sensor thingymagig last night. Came up rather well too, but not something I'd care to repeat lol.

And now the time has come to re-assemble. The question is:

A) Do I have to go to Ford, to get a Throttlebody to Manifold gasket & A Throttlebody to ISC valve gasket?

B) HTF does the spring on the bottom of the throttlebody, that connects to your throttle cable & butterfly go back in?

Cheers

James

F2TZ 9H486 B GASKET - INTAKE MANIFOLD, UPPER, GT (-)TL50/TS50 $51.00

Is this the gasket for the throttle body to manifold? or the gasket between upper & lower manifold?

Or is this any good?

Firstly - did you undo the bolt(s) under the 5 Litre engine plate? The photo shows the plate still on, which may have been your problem.

A) No need to use a new gasket, just reuse the old one with some silastic gasket to fill any cracks in the gasket.

B) The spring goes on the reverse of how it came off.

There's no if about it - there is at least one bolt under the plate.

This is only a one man operation! 3 blokes and 2 hrs to take off an alloy intake, something must be wrong, this would not take anymore than an hour tops, from start to finish.

Christ, i would be checking the lower intake for damage, hopefully you have only broken the 2 bolts which you didnt undo under the 5LT plate!!

Excessive force is not necessary! you should be able to reuse all of the gaskets, i have performed this exercise many times and still have my original gaskets.

Be very careful installing the spacer, you have to not use any force, tighten it gently and evenly, or you will see your upper intake break, hopefully you didnt break your lower one.

2 bolts, long buggers too, with washer type heads to really clamp down on the upper intake.

3 guys, James even I can get mine off myself. I reckon youve missed the bolts as said above.

My spacer should arrive tomorrow so it will be interesting to compare results!

Yeah i had already removed them, I'm a stickler for putting things back so I don't lose them. I had already removed the 2 from under there, but somehow or someone, had literally stuck the effin thing down.

Anyway, I still need to put the spring back in, and I have no idea how... If anyone has some photos of their throttle linkage that would be handy?

Cheers Austin... Let me know how your spacer goes as well, I have a feeling i'm going to have clearance issues with my bonnet. As it is at the moment, the engine cover already rubs against the hood lining :

interesting you mention that, i was wondering about it too. i dont have my engine cover on now thats its painted (only put it on for shows etc), but i reckon the manifold is going to come pretty close.

what size spacer are you using? 12mm?

1/2 inch phenolic spacer will mean that the engine cover rubs against the hood lining. If you don't fit the cover, then it won't rub - the rest of it is OK

Yeah the 1/2 inch / 12mm.. It just seems strange that even without the spacer my engine cover rubbed against the hood lining. So its only going to be worse when I put it on. I might need to cut a little out of the hood lining?? or is this a bad idea?

I had a bit of a look at mine, and my intake snorkel is actually pushing the cover up, it rubs on that and it rubs on the bonnet lining. Im leaving the lining on until I work out if the manifold is going to hit the bonnet, if it doesnt though, Im going to take it off (the lining) as I hate it. Problem is though, that the underside of the bonnet isnt painted.

I just went to take some pics of the throttle linkage for you, its going to be a pita to get a clear shot of. Ill take it off this arvo.

I checked mine out, i'm lucky. The underside of my bonnet is painted lol, but i'm unsure of pulling the lining out. I mean Ford put it there for a reason right?

Ahhh bugger ya, so they skimped on the black! :hihi:

I dont think it makes much difference if its there or not, i pulled mine off my old EF I6 when i had it and there was no difference. If anything I reckon it's on there to quieten down the noise a bit, but when its a windsor you want to do the exact opposite!

I just got my spacer in in around 20 mins, all by myself. Where's my gold star! :

yeah they put something on there, it was really hard to clean the surface, had to use a chisel and fine sandpaper to get the gritty stuff off. Got any pics yet?

You still waiting on a pic of that spring? I'll take one when I get home, and post it up later tonight (approx 11pm) unless someone beats me to it.
