Default Good vibrations

Think I may have broken something real good in the ute...

I get a bad vibration which I can almost pinpoint to the tailshaft joining with the transmission, that's where I feel it's vibrating the worst. I was thinking uni joint but if that was the case, I wouldn't be able to drive it.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Anyway, it occurs in first gear, 50%+ throttle, will do it from 2500rpm onwards intermittantly (ie: it'll do it, then stop, then do it again). The rubbing sound I'm hearing is hard to explain without either anyone else being in it, or without a sound file.

Went up the road before, I think before doing anything drastic, I'll get all my wheels rebalanced and aligned, see what that does. I think my rear tyres have had it too, to what effect that has on this vibration will remain to be seen.

Could be a number of things, such as bent propellor shaft,or drive shaft out of balance.

But DEFINETLY get your rear wheels balanced and checked,as you said you were going to.
I had a similar vibration once that was getting worse by the day.I could have sworn it was drive-train/gearbox related because of the "feel" of the vibrations.
Man-was I wrong. The problem was my rear wheels were out of balance and the vibrations were going through the whole subframe and because I could feel them through my seat, I thought it was drivetrain.

So get those rears checked and balanced before going any further is my advice.
Good luck! :voldar02:

I had some reeaalllyy bad vibrations in my old Camry once. Turned out the steel belt on the tyre had peeled right up on one side, on the inside, and on the other side, the tyre had grown three massive orange sized lumps. I got new tyres the next day, and it seemed to fix them.

I've got the ute at Pedders at the moment getting rear suspension bushes replaced to finally eliminate some squeaking, and if it's helped some of the vibration that'll be another step closer to pinpointing it.

Sam, I'll have a look over the weekend and I'll let you know.

Also Kenny, when I punched the top out of my shockie in the rear, it made great vibrations as there was no oil in it. Maybe this could be the problem?

Car is back from Pedders.

No squeaks when I stop or go now. Also, that vibration is goooone.

I figure one of the bushes was shot to pieces and something was sitting loose in the rear end. It's so much better now.
