yep, i'll be adding that to the list of things i need when the 5 speed goes into the Fairmont
But for the XY, i'll be sticking with the biggest bloody monster tacho I can find. Hopefully with around 500hp it wont be considered as rice lol

Someone needs to reset their service spanner ;)
Awesome mod, much classier than a massive tacho/light tech screwed to the crashpad!

If not there are heaps of places you can get the signal from. ECU, cruise control feed, you can even wire this kit right up to the injectors and read RPM from that. I tried to tune mine to light up at 5500 yesterday but it didnt seem to want to switch at that high rpm. It is supposed to switch up to 30,000 rpm so I guess I just need to adjust the range a bit. Ill try again tomorrow.

stockstandard - I found that I had to adjust R2 i think the yellow variable resistor rather then the pots to get the switching correct as per the instructions (unless I was reading them wrong).

I had a thought on the brightness of the LED, why not use a dual relay one with 5 poles, so you have a NC and a NO output it can be set to use the NO for daytime driving i.e. LED with correct resistor nice and bright, then tap the headlights or parkers to the relay and when it goes to NC mode run a slightly bigger resistor and the LED will be alot dimmer.
stockstandard - how did the setting of the switch go ? FRDXR6 - I am in Melbourne and can help you out if you really want to do this mod, drop me a PM.

Havent looked at it to be honest. Too dam cold, windy and wet to go outside in Adelaide atm.
I was thinking the same thing with a higher resistance for night driving. When I get it all working Ill pull it apart again and see what I can do.

heya StockStandard! the shift light is freaking awsome! straight after reading about ur shift light i went to jay car to get some more info on it! and i am going to buy it tomoz! i also have a 5speed EF and live in adelaide i spoke to one of my mates and he is going to help me install it as soon as he has finished his UNI exams. i could probably do it but it would take me 3 weeks... hes studying computer engineering or elctronics or something so if he does it will be quick and properly done the light is bloody awsome mate!

my rsm has shift light output...
i have a little switchboard on my dash with a light above each switch and an extra on top of fuse.. might wire that up.. cheers.. great idea.. watch out with the really bright LED's.. i wired up a 5000mcd blue to my alarm light and i ended up taking it out coz it lit up all four seats.. too much attention..

All cool now. Just sorted out the lack of light beyond 3000 rpm.
If anyone else is going to try this, I recommend not taking the rpm from the diagnostic port - it is really hard to make a good electrical connection (unless you have the proper plug). I rewired the input from the tacho feed to the cluster which is the blue-pink wire going to the plug on the right hand side of the dash. The light is set at about 6000rpm at the moment so I need to turn it down a touch still. I took a cool movie of it in action which is HERE (less than 1MB)
