Default EB V8, does it have a MAP sensor?

G'day,

Just wondering if the EB V8's have a map sensor? Or do they have a BAP?

Since I did the I6 - V8 conversion, I have been running the standard I6 MAP sensor with the V8. Should it be used in this way? Or does it have another purpose? i.e. Measuring atmospheric pressure (would be important in the USA with such great variations in the altitude that cars operate in.)

As far as I know all EFi Windsor's in Australia used MAF (Mass Air Flow). Most definately the E Series did. The V8's didn't have a MAP at all. The only V8's with a MAP sensor used in Aus was the LS1, and even then they also have a MAF!

Unsure as to how a MAP sensor would communicate with an ECU designed for a MAF?

Some early V8 Eseries did have a BAP sensor as well as the MAF. You should run the BAP with no vacuum line connected so it samples atmospheric pressure.

Darin is right, they are EB1/NC1/DC1 V8's used BAP's, the BAP is the same thing as the MAP, if you follow Darin's instructions it will be fine. If your loom has a plug for it, go nuts and connect it up.

When I converted my ED to a V8, I used the wiring harness and motor from an NCII, so it was minus the MAP. I wanted to leave the MAP as a reminder of its I6 days, but someone *looks @ Darin* wouldn't let me! lol

Great, thanks a heap guys!!!

I started to suspect something while I was reading some pages online.
I was seeing 'BAP', and going "wait a second, thats an atmospheric pressure sensor, there aint no atmospheric pressure in my manifold!!!" (unfortunatly not even under WOT!!!)

Again, thanks for clearing it up. As of now, it is not connected to my plennum.

And surprise surprise, the engine also idles MUCH better now!!!
Poor bugger has probabarly been thinking that it has been opperating at 100,000 feet altitude for the past 6 months!!!!!!
