Palmerston North

Seriously though, the Manawatu Gorge, and Himatangi Beach. The gorge is insane, and you can drive on Himatangi beach! Other than that, Lake Taupo is pretty cool, and the geysers at Rotorua. Great stuff. Most of NZ is pretty good, when I went, because my girl is a kiwi herself, she took me off the tourist path as it were, saw the real NZ, not just the tourist trail. Hire a car, go nuts!

EDIT: Sunk a glass of puss for me, Export Gold us the drop!

Wellington Pubs and Clubs on Friday/Saturday. Wellington goes off then.

Taupo is good as well, I'm not really best person to ask about good places to go but Auckland can get fu**ed, lol.

Are you on drugs or what, Wellington is a wet & windy crap hole :
The best thing about Wellington is the road north as you leave !

I'd recommend from top to bottom....

Bay Of Islands
Auckland
Coromandel
Bay Of Plenty
Napier

I'll have to say Rotorua like a few of the others have said. Also there's some glow worm caves at Waitomo which I'd recommend.

I quite liked the departure lounge but I would say give Rotorua a look.

Napier is a great place, quaint "art deco" style town, lovely climate and some of the Hawkes Bay wines are the best you'll find.

Export Gold is not the drop. Give Monteith's a try. Napier's a real beautiful city. Got levelled in the 20's, I think. Hawke's bay's a great place for wine, too. That said, I quite like Wellington, too. Taupo and Rotorua are fairly nice places to go see too.
The South Island's beautiful. You can see why NZ was such a good filming location for LotR if you take a long roadtrip through the South Island, and you'll also get to taste the brilliance that is Ferg Burger.

Yeah, Monteiths is one of the top beers out there.

Just stay clear of our main high ways, unless its driving around Lake Taupo on a good day. Theres some good and usually quicker (if you drive em right) backroads parallel to state highway 1 with bugger all cops and traffic about, Targa NZ was just run through a lot of these.

Ahhh - Palmerston North my home town. Great place if you like wind and rain.

Try 'speights gold' - that's the drop for me when I'm home

anywhere you go in the north island theres something to do or see. Same with the south island, just theres more towns/cities in the north.

if you drive into wellington via SH1, just south of paekokarekei (sp?) theres a road that heads up to a lookout, its by the BP where the railway museum is. if you have a spare 15-20mins I suggest you go up there. its an awesome road, and the view is amazing. ive got pics of the road and some of the view somewhere...

Thats the one. We used to ride our bikes out there, I had a liquid cooled yamaha 350 two stroke, great roads, camp on the lawns out the front and party all night. Had some very interesting "meetings" with some lovely Kiwi ladies there. Very fond memories.

I used to have my annual summer holidays at Whangamata, great memories especially of the pub. I think you will be stunned how friendly everyone is. I would ask people while your travelling to help with the must sees. Every place has something unique to see whether its history or a bit action or just breathtaking scenery. New Zealand has over the years become very switched on with looking after tourists.

Go to Rotorua and visit the Polynesian spa for a litte relaxation. It is wonderful...wish we had something like that here.

If you get a chance go and try the Zorb (great big ball that you climb inside of and get pushed down a hill)
