Default Oil Filter - 220 XR8

Hi all.

I changed the oil on the weekend in the XR, I used GTX3 15w-40 (I hope thats ok), anyway when I went to change the oil filter I realised that the Z9 equivilent in Purolator form, did not fit my car?
I thought all Au's had the same filter Z9?
It also had oil lines attached to it, I was thinking something to do with an oil cooler? So I wasted $15 buying a Purolater filter that didn't fit. I also noticed the Z9 equivelent is also bigger than the filter currently on there.

So what type of filter fits?

Thanks
James

Yeah, the 220kw XR8's had the oil cooler, and therefore a different oil filter (because of the oil cooler lines/sandwhich plate).

Not sure what the number is, but I would expect it would just be a "shorter" version of the Z9..?

Yep shorter version of the Z9/L3001 Puro, you need Z89A/L14670 Puro or go to Supercheap for the blue PureOne part # PL14670.

Oil you used is fine. Hand book specifies this:
Engine Oil (XR8 sedan only) 5.5 litres - API spec SJ/CF 15W40 Ford Spec WSE-M2C902-A3. Ford R1-300

Oil filter:
V8 With oil Cooler Z89A
V8 without oil cooler Z9

The lines you have go to an oil cooler, so you want a Z89A.

***EDIT*** Damn 2 posts posted while I was finishing, my reply.

In the manual for my Pursuit 250 it says to use around the same or more oil but 5L of oil fills it perfectly so I wouldn't go from what the book says.

Just watch what you are doing when filling it...

I remember Dad did the first oil change on his and the filter was 4 times the price of a Z9 and 1/2 the size.
The first service Ford did they just pushed/bent the oil lines out of the way and fitted the Z9.
The car was brand new, had warranty and Ford did it so Dad didnt care.
To this day it has never been a problem.

Yep been there done that with the AU could not get the filter off so it was the screw stick thru the filter and turn - THEN - I realised hey these are different sizes and the Z9 was too long and hit on the the chassis rail
Problem - wife was not home so no lift to the local super creap AH HA I will ride the pushy up the road , flat tyre - after an hour long return walk in a nice January Brisbane day 40+ and about 80% humidity lesson one learnt , lesson 2 buy 2 RYCO Z89A filters 1 for now and 1 for ron
I was : by my own stupidity :hihi:

Just use the Z9 equivelant, if you push the cooler lines out of the way it fits no problem.

Whats the difference between the two filters? Is it better to have a short one or the bigger z9? I heard its better to use a smaller filter as it filters quicker than the bigger z9?
