EF stalling

Hey. I've got a problem with my EF. I havn't had it very long (couple months) and when it's cold it will occationaly stall. I had changed the battery so I thought the computer hadn't reset itself properly. I did the 2mins in each gear thing to reset it but i was just wondering what the problem could be?

Did I reset the computer properly? Or is it something to do with the fast idle (since its only when its cold)

I need to get it sorted out.. When i was driving down the highway today the engine cut out... NOT GOOD.

ISC? changing leads maybe? Doubt it would be a computer problem, I dont understand what everyone is on about, when they say reset the computer evertime you take the battery out. I just wack it straight back in and it runs the same.

When you change the battery the idles will be all up the ****. It has to relearn everything. But ill look into the leads i've got a funny feeling about the ones that are there. One looks a bit dodgy. Now that i thinkk about it.. It couldn't be the idle if it stalled when i was driving at 90+km/h.

chances are ur ISC is sticking, take it off and give it a good clean in kero/petrol with a stiff brush and then run it under hot water and then dry it off with an airline

well if one lead looks crook you have probably found it.
By the way the ISC (idle speed controller) is on your throttle body incase you were going to clean it.

Hi again, Just following up. The problem is getting more common so i need to do something about it asap.

Hopefully it is the ISC thats the problem... damn Intermittent faults. The annyoing thing is that 99% of the time its when the car is cold and just at idle in park.

Cleaning is ISC sounds like a good place to start. How exactly do i go about it? I don't even know what it looks like.

the ISC is on top of the the throttle body, 2 bolts hold it on, unplut it from the loom, and give it a good cleanout with wd40 or alike should do, then bolt it back on, re-plug to the loom and see how that goes.

EFs commonly blow the ISC controlling output from the ECU. a pick-a-part style wrecker will be a good place to find either an ECU or ISC to try replacing either things.

You can test the ISC by applying 12v to its terminals and seeing if it operates. if that works, put a multimeter on the terminals with the engine idling to see if there is any voltage. if not, your ecu is the culprit.

We had a look at the car on the weekend. Found a split hose off the fuel regulator which I’m told can cause stalling when you give it some throttle. That doesn’t explain it stalling at Idle though.

Anyway we fixed the hose and it was fine. Then 2 days later... bam it stalled a few times in a row. I’m stumped, we took off the ISC and cleaned it and it is functioning etc.

Only things left to try would be to replace the ISC just to rule it out. Can the ISC cause the car to stall when cruising at 80 - 100 though? The only other idea someone told me was the smart lock, which I don't know much about. Something to do with the immobilizer. Seems possible because it has been playing up a bit too (locking and unlocking over and over) so it could be that.

I'd like to fix this myself, Auto elec's can be expensive. Has anyone had this problem?

Hey got the same problem....Mine doesn't idle when cold by itself, also pritty bad when aircon is turned on!..
When is cold i have 2 put the foot on the gas pedal for bout 1 min.lol..
I am pretty sure its the ecu at fault!! Mine has not been fixed yet! But i am taking it 2 a ecu specialist!
Mine started 2 play up after changing to a manual ECU's.. hope it helps.

Thats the strange thing.. Mine will idle most of the time.. but now and then it will be idling then from nowhere.... bang its dead... Or even worse, cruising allong a country road... dead (but attempts to run on). Got me whats wrong. Im going to ring FORD up and see if they have any ideas.

When it cuts out..is it hard 2 start after that..??
Another thing it could be ur fuel pump..could be starved of fuel sometimes..just a stab in the dark!
