Default From the Editor - TS50

I know this is old news but I came across this one the other night, havent read it before and had a good chuckle.
http://autospeed.drive.com.au/cms/article.html?&A=1191

The whole article was a pathetic attempt to bag what has turned out to be one of the finest vehicles ever produced in this country, the writer completely missed the point of what the vehicle was about, sure the T series will look out of place amongst the saabs and volvos parked whilst the writer sips on his latte's, you would have thought the fool would have realised it was designed for the strip/track and not the coffee strip.

As I said old news but will be of interest to those who have not seen this article, I now know why I don't waste my hard earned on Motoring rags, you woudnt trust their judgement or lack of.

Interesting. I wonder if he realises that the BMWs and other European prestige cars he is comparing the TS50s with for the bodykit and sunroof fitment are a hell of a lot more expensive. The base BMW 3-Series is about the same amount as the TS50 isnt it? If so, im sure they can afford to have a seperate roof stamping for sunroof models...

Also, how old if the smallblock 350 chev V8 that the commodores are still using derivatives of? Surely that is just as old and is exactly the same boat as the windsor?

I also like the way he compared it to putting a datto engine into a skyline or an old red motor into a new commodore. He is implying that they had something better in the previous model and then took a step backwards with the AU V8s.

Me thinks he was denied a test drive of the TS50 for some reason and just wanted to rag on it.

Autospeed have a habit of slagging off fords. This was one of their earlier attempts:

http://arabia.autospeed.com/cms/A_12...ntArticle.html

And then in issue 177, published 23 April 2002, they had this to say about the AUIII TE50:

"...Rev it past 2500, though, and a tingly vibration starts to make its way through the floor. Something in the engine balance is just not quite right.... Then start to use the engine in anger and all hell can break loose. Get near the 5750 rpm redline - but still before the rev cut - and the engine shakes with vehemence that we've never experienced in any car. Like, it honestly feels as if the V8 is about to explode - pistons erupting out of the side of the block. You don't even need to look at the tacho - when the whole car starts to fiercely vibrate and the engine makes an incredibly harsh and strained noise, change gear."

The guy is just a clown. I used to have an Autospeed subscription, but you can understand why I let it lapse.

What the journo says is so true. A performance Falcon/Commodore is just paying a few boys to drill holes and stick together plastics. Its just that they make enough of them that they can develop the bodykits with a fairly large budget so they look alright

Umm, you have no idea how close you are to the truth. A very close mate of mine was an engineer at holden.

EDIT: Just read the article. LMFAO. Exhibit A, another motoring journalist who is an idealist with his head in the sand. Hate to break it to ya sonny, There's only one car in the world that is painstakingly hand crafted (just like he wants all cars to be). Its a Morgan and for 245kW it costs ya upwards of half a mil. You want to buy a car for around 50-60K, you're gonna have ot expect some less glamourous production methods.

"So, unlike (say) a Ford specialist magazine whose journalists would be terrified at the shattering dollar implications of describing how Tickford attach bodykits, we can do it. Even though, yes, that will undoubtedly annoy part of our readership"- Julian Edgar

If i knew Tickford only attached bodykits i wouldnt have bought me TE, god damn why didnt some1 tell me that im driving around in a V8 forte with a bodykit

The guys a tosser! simple as that.
Ever other motor mag that tested the T3s were astounded by the car, except this dingbat.
The reason I bought a T3 was because of the writeups they were getting, & how much of a rap they were getting compaired to the 255 HSV Clubsport.
Except for this guy I didn't read one negitive thing about the Tseries they were

""the best Ford performance car ever to come out of Australia "" was one of the headlines

Another one was "" Remember the GTHO? Well your getting close""

Then this guy comes out with his tripe!!

dodgy or not id still have one, and the build quality is better than it is now, better than the commodore (that i know of), better than most cheaply made imports and the AU at least looks better than that journo

Hmmm, sounds like he's not used to anything with more than 300Nm of torque.

Quoted from the article.."The Windsor V8 first saw the light of day in 1962. Nineteen Sixty-Two.... that's no less than 39 years ago!" & "Can you think of any other performance car sold anywhere in the world that is currently powered by an engine first designed over 39 years ago? We can't..." & "That any media outlet can even embrace - let alone laud - the idea of a current model using an engine whose direct roots are well over a third of a century old is quite laughable."

Ummm hello - isn't the current Holder V8 range using a motor based upon the "slightly older" small block chevy that is just a tad longer in the tooth - having been cracked out of the casting sand way back in 1953?

Ford have also had the Cleveland family & the current BOSS family of engines as well.

That guy got hung and then fed to the cats in the news didnt he ?

The r8's and holdens were also based on ancient motors. They still are.
He also failed to mention that around 80% of ls1's of the time used more oil thanpetrol and indeed the holden factory was full of engine rebuilds.

.."holden!! dream on!!"

Funny article.....he is probably right....all Fords and Holdens are a built a tad dodgey.....your very biasied if you don't agree.....no matter what you have a Forte or the T3......it is still a Base model Falcon.... just with a few added extras....awesome extras though....but extras....and built to a small budget....maybe the editor should **** off to europe if he likes there cars so much.....he needs to understand that maybe Magazines are biased towards Fords and Holdens.....and so they should its an Australian magazine...nothing wrong with being loyal!!!
