Default Declared Disaster Zone!!

I'll kind of summarise the story for you guys.

Yesterday. (21 Dec 2006) Armidale was yet again Encumbered with a FREAK hailstorm. With SES working throughout the night, the towns still having trouble rebuilding.

The main exhibition Centre CRUMBLED under the weight of the hail, Families Lost their Homes, Cars written off, Accidents caused, and as u can imagine.. a lot of broken glass.

Im a local here, have lived here all my life - which in 11 days is 18 yrs - and I wasn't near as affected as a lot of the town, and being a small town girl. I want to get in there and HELP as much as I can. I wanna do fundraisers and things like that.. but I have no idea where to start. Can anyone help??

(myself being bogged on a MAIN ROAD in hail in my AU unable to get traction, luckily got help from locals - and escavators - to get out of the hail.. they dont teach ya that @ driving school)

Thank christ my girlfriend just moved out of their apartment in main street of armidale (like 4 weeks ago), so no damage to any of her stuff and she was safe on the north coast

Sad to see it happen to such a beautiful place though

They forecasted snow in some areas. Can't remember where though.

The weather this year has been very very weird here in Canberra.

Really speaks volume about modern building construction. Hopeless.

LilMissDrift! I will donate $50 bucks as well when ya get the bank account sorted ! Our thoughts are with the southern states at the moment! Fires , bad storms , No water , and high road tolls are just the start of it . I hope people can still enjoy the christmas period despite all the adversity.

Funds won't be a problem.

Your time would be much more appreciated.

If you really want to help, contact your local volunteer agencies and ask where they need you.

Oh, and well done for wanting to help

Quite so, but in (some) fairness to the buildings designers, snow/freakish amounts of hail is not something one would plan for.

But point taken, you wouldnt expect a building to buckle under that.
