the point i was making though; if you drop one of these things you're gonna knock out a whole stack of pins - if it were to land on its side it could be a whole row bent, if it hit on a corner it would be 4 or 5 bent.

if you can drop this and knock out 1 single pin half way along an edge i will give you $386. forgive me for not believing them saying it was dropped.

Send it down to me and i'll try :.

Certainly seems odd that noone will even consider replacing it. In all honesty i probably wouldnt attempt fixing it yourself, cos if you do try and it damages it even more then you're really stuffed.

Know any solicitors? Gte them just to draft a letter suggesting it would be in the company's best interests to refund and rectify the situation, then send it to the store you bought it from. Failing that, try going round there one day with a mob of big black men with angry expressions on their faces, and ask to speak to the manager. :

As a matter of fact, all they need to do is return it to the distributor that supplies them, it is that simple. This is, however, not the first time I have come accross such crappy service. I guy I use to work with, bought a motherboard/CPU/RAM package and the saga makes yours look like a pleasurable experience.

In my shop I went out of my way to make sure this never happened. If I got a faulty part I contacted the supplier and returned it, for a replacement. At the same time, I never opened the stock and frigged with it, then scribbled on the box and sold it as new.

Nah mate, that wasnt aimed at you at all. What I was getting at is that a company like Intel has come across so many warranty claims where the user is at fault because they THINK they know what they are doing. Then when a legit claim comes along ( like yours ), the customer is basically treated like scum.

I know our store policy is that if the box is sealed, we cannot open it. Once the item is purchased, it belongs to the customer. This is why I suggest opening the box in the store before you leave

I noticed your complaint has made it to the front page of notgoodenough.org.
Thats got to be a start. Even if it is under Ignored.

Yeah I noticed it on NGE too, that might make them sit up and pay attention. You should have mentioned the packaging looked liked it had been tampered with on closer observation.

Good luck, I hope they can help you out.

my main point was that i dont think its fair for you to go off saying that the techs at the store dont know how to do their job....im not agreeing with the way they're treating you.

hmmm they do seem to have a decent response...however, the fact that intel makes millions of CPU's doesnt mean shit in this case....all it means that in mass production, shit happens. that point would be more powerful if they made 3 CPUs a day by hand.

Personally I'd stop dealing with the shop itself and go higher, they've already had bad media exposure on NGE, I doubt that head office itself would want further bad media exposure.

Get the name of the person that you speak to and make sure that you speak to that same person all the time.

I know I'll be avoiding the disc shop at all costs now, as I'm sure will many others, not just on the forum but also those that get the NGE newsletter.

How the hell do you break ONE pin when putting the CPU in the socket, especially one that's not on the corner? :gren:

Keep fighting Seano! ing_sm

This is what i recommend also. There is an ever increasing problem with LCD monitors also with the dead pixel policy, if you buy a lcd and there is one or two dead pixel 9/10 times it is not classed as faulty so no refund or replacement is given, i would recommend getting a shop to turn on and show that there a no dead pixels before you hand over your cash.

cheers
Chippa
