Been thinking for a while that it would be nice to have LSD in the EL, which is currently 3:08 ss. Well, after talking to a few places, and there arent many up here that do diff rebuilds (in Cairns), Ive found a place to do it for $1400. For that, I get a brand new lsd hemi, brand new diff gears (3:73), all new bearings, and labour. Can anyone tell me if that is a good price? The other option I have is to get a 3:23lsd complete from a wrecker for $450, but take the risk that it is noisey/needs rebuilding, plus the cost of having new gears fitted. So yeah, hows that for a price, keeping in mind im living in Cairns.

OK. From memory, he said the hemi was $500, about the same for the gears, and $400 for new bearings and labour. I realise using second hand gears would bring the cost down, only problem is finding them.

Tim,
I would look at finding a 2nd hand LSD diff, Even if the cones are stuffed they are $200 the pair from Ford, but most of the time you can space them out. Then look for some gears. |

A lot of people spend $600-700 on secondhand 3.45 LSDs which could go bang at any time. Considering a rebuilt diff with recoed parts starts around $750 it seems just a tad more logical. I think Preston in Vic charge about that depending on who you know. :P

Well with any luck ive found a 3:45lsd gear set/hemi for a good price, so ill probably just go with that, makes it easier to get the spedo right.

Another question. Having possibly found a hemi/gearset, ive heard conflicting ideas as to whether or not they will fit. So, will a 3:45 lsd fit into a 3:08 ss housing? Some say yes, some say ill need a 3:23 housing.

I was going to go to Preston - I forget their number but look on the sticker on Sunny's car . However I think Hus (STOKEB) said he can get a better deal again so it would be worth speaking to him. I haven't taken it further as I'm not quite ready yet.

keep me posted. id love 3.9s ideally, but i dont think its worth swapping diffs (due to them not fitting the 3.23 housing), unless i can get a cheap 3.08 somewhere.. sunny, dan, or any of you others who are constantly wrecking cars? i might settle for 3.7s. speedo correction with the jaycar kit should be easy..
