EAs come with 2 3.9L (not 4.1, that was XF) engines, a CFI version with 120Kw, or a MPFI version with 139Kw. They both have EFI (injection), so you should be right.
As for problems, check out some history on www.deleted link, as I am not too sure of the top of my head lol. Good work on your new car, welcome to the forums, I hope you enjoy both. |

Welcome to the club. I also used to own a TG Gemini but this is not the time nor place for that. EA overheating issues, keep an eye on the side tanks of the radiator (the radiator is metal the side tanks are plastic) which makes flushing the rad easy as you can easily unclip the side tanks and give them a good clean. How many kms are on the car you are picking up ?

That sounds like great kms! XFs had 4.1s. EAs and EB1s had 3.9s, then EBII onwards was 4.0 litre. Is your auto 3 or 4 speed?

As explained before the 4.1 stopped with the XF Falcon. The car you looking at is obviously the 3.9 Multipoint(now im ****ed as i only have CPI. Carbi type) Off hand i think the multipoint had 139kw and the CPI had 120kw. Correct me if im wrong guys. What color is it. I like to dig the hue. RUNNING ON EMPTY. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

yeh overheating is a problem for my EA. the radiator has just been flushed at the radiator place. it was about 40% blocked, but still doesnt keep the engine cool enough, im thinking of replacing it with the EB 5.0ltr radiator. i think it just bolts straight in.
mines an 88 and has done 152,000ks

I would have thought removing it would have a negative effect, as the coolant doesn't stay in the radiator long enough to cool down properly? Or is it all good?

Driving without a thermostat isn't good. It probably won't overheat but it sure as hell won't run properly.

I'd also recommend you have a thermostat. Not running one means the car will be constantly running cold, increasing wear on the engine and making the fuel economy worse. I had a thermostat jam open on me a few years ago so I know what it's like (at least it didn't jam closed like on dad's ute). Since replacing the thermostat, my temperature gauge usually sits on about 1/4

Its all good she gets up to temp. Im not advising anyone to do this. Its just something ive always ripped out of all my cars. Had me XE GHIA for 10 years without one and no probs what so ever.

Keep a close eye on the radiator tanks. Mine let go on me yesterday and the guy at the radiator place said it is very common in the EA EB series cars as the tanks get brittle after 10 - 15 years old and they split at the seam.
Mine was due to the fact that it was half blocked also which made it get warm coming up the range then split and left me on the side of the road for 2 hours while i waited for help. I replaced everything too when it happened including the hose. Mind you my EBII has 305,000 on the clock (rebuilt engine now) So it has been around a bit. |

Thats good advice for anyone new to a e-series car. The side tanks (on EA anyway are plastic) and easy to take off and clean out.
