Default Random Thought - 4.0OHC into TC Cortina

Reckon it could happen easily? Reason being is that a 4.0OHC engine is nearly the cheapest 210hp you can get from a wreckers, and being of very similar size to the 200's already found in the old cortinas.

I figure the standard engine mounts could be used (as you do when you put a 4.0 into an XD-XF), but a new gearbox mount would need to be used with the T5/BTR 4spd you put in, along with a new tailshaft.

Then the computer would need to be looked at, with wiring in an EF/EL/AU computer being a lot of work (but as a bonus you get to use all the electrics that these cars have, and have factory fault codes), and an aftermarket computer being pretty expensive (but offering more potential).

The exhaust would be changed, coz thats just what you do when you swap an engine. While you are at it, throw in a set of extractors and your 210hp has changed into 260...

I reckon this would be a unique, powerful, economical cruiser. And the RTA would have bugger all rason to knock you back, with the 250 crossflow commonly fitted (if not factory) being a bigger more pololuting engine.

Thoughts people?

just make sure you get the tc xle. or the one with the 4.1 litre. power bulge will be effective and also the suspension will handle the 4.0 ohc engine.

Talk to CORTEA, he is doing pretty much the same thing, only I think he is fitting a 3.9.

well it may not be as unique as I thought. Then again Cortina's are rare now, so any 6cyl would be good.

I reckon it'd be a mad idea. Although I'd use the ECU from a pre-smartlock EA/EB. Then wiring would be a piece of cake. Just run a few power wires etc for the ECU/fuel pump and plug-in all the sensors....done. Then you don't have to worry about smartlock, BBM switching etc.

I think you should do it then rip skids all day long

yeah, but overall the EF/L/AU engines are a lot more powerful and smoother. Maybe a haltech is in order, or one of those GM Delco computers.

Hows the red EF coming along?

yeah, but understeer would have been an issue in the 200 log motors as well, if not more. With the iron head and all.

why didnt they make a hot 6cyl corty and race it at bathurst? would have $#@t all over anything if they did it right. Look what the XU-1's did...

Hmm well it appears we are about to find out how this would go...

I have acquired a neat looking TD with a 2L and a 4 speed. Soon to make way for whatever 6cyl and auto combination lands on my door first. See my other thread for more details
