Default Whats better?

New cam and inlet with edit or diff gears and converter with edit? What would you do?

gears and converter (edit is common to both). Better launches than you will get if you only do cam/inlet.

How much are gears and converter usually worth? I'm thinking of putting 3.7 gears and 2500 stally in it as 3.9's affect fuel usage too much.

If you plan on getting a cam you should get a convertor anyway. Start with the diff gears and convertor best suited to which cam you plan on getting in the future.

If its an Auto go the 3.9's with a 3000rpm convertor.

Two ways to match cam and converter:

1. get converter then get cam to match the converters stall point (useable rev range) (eg 2500 histall, get a cam that works well in 2400 to 4800 rpm)
2. get cam, then get converter that stalls up to match the revs at the bottom end of the cams useable rev range. (eg get cam that works well from 2100 to 4200 rpm, you might get a 2200 Hi-stall)

The reason most people get a 2500 Hi-stall on a standard cammed AU is that torque starts fattening up at around those revs and power gets quite good too, so the stall speed of the transmission is working at the best output of the engine, wihtout being too peaky (ie 3500rpm Hi stall would be a bit of a pig to drive sedately).

Basically, if you get a cam and inlet changes, you may still be disappointed, as the car will have plenty of power somewhere, just not between 0 & 40 km/h, whereas diff gears and Hi-stall tend to address this shortcoming in falcons.
