I heard from a dealer today that there will be freshening (light facelift) to the Focus later this year (2nd or 3rd qtr).
Does anyone know anything about this ? I think the Zetec needs it to bridge the gap between the std Focus' and the XR5. It would be good to get additional features in the Zetec to make it more attractive (especially seeing XR5's are almost impossible to get without a long wait). |

if it's like most 'freshenings' then you'll have some new wheels and maybe a lip on the front spoiler.
I want to see a XR5 to replace the zetec with a NA Volvo 5 cylinder engine. |

Rumor has it that the facelift is due mid this year. The automatic will be replaced by a 5speed unit and the diesel versions will most likely be imported from Germany.
Styling wise probably new bumpers, lights and slightly different interior. Engines may get a new flash and minor changed but likely very small. *Info stolen from the other ford forums

I'd like to see something in the Zetec that would bridge the gap to the XR5. Nicer wheels, leather trim option (and sportier seats), tougher looking front bar, and some more grunt would be nice. Oh and lower the thing an inch or two !! And maybe some new and exotic colours ? |

Did anybody get the Melbourne Motor Show email from Ford? Here's the blurb
"The versatility and depth of the Ford Focus range has received an innovative boost with the introduction of the new turbo diesel powered Focus TDCi. Plus the addition of a 4-door Zetec sedan and 5-door Ghia hatch has further enhanced the Focus product range in the Australian small car market. Just when you thought the quality and refinement of the German engineered Focus couldn’t get any smoother… Stay tuned to ford.com.au for updates." Very interesting. I am assuming they will still be from S.A? Will Diesel be an option on all models? A Zetec sedan will be nice, but leather would be a nice option, at the moment it's costlier but worth getting the Ghia and upsizing it (alloys etc. as I did in the end if you want a nicer interior). A better engine would be nice, to go up against the SP23? Will we get curtain airbags? Either way, it's good to have a better range than previously. |

Zetec sedan will be good :-)
I wish they sold the Ghia with black leather option and aluminum interior inserts and in manual. |

I only hope the diesel engine is offered in all models (or at least LX upwards) as an option, rather than in the one high-end model.

The diesel will be in one model, the Focus TDCi, it seems to fit in the range around the LX area, it will only be available in hatch and with a 6 speed manual.
All models will now get the option of traction control, DSC and side curtain airbags. Thats going to help us fight the mazda 3, and live up to these new TAC ads. The zetec sedan looks really nice, the zetec and ghia now will get some really nice alloys too. At last they are getting rid of the alloys on the current ghia, they were terrible.

Will the Zetec be able to be optioned with leather ? I think it needs these features to go up against the Mazda 3 SP23. |

Current issue of WHEELS mentions a 1.8 Turbo Diesel is "the most likely option" but I've read elswhere it'll be a 2.0 Litre that's sourced from PSA and I hope there'll be a Semi-Automatic option not just a 6 Speed Manual.
