Default G'day all

On Saturday, I became the proud owner of a 1990 EA. It's my first car and in the 5 months 'till I get my P's I'll be getting it up to RWC with my dad, as well as making a few small modifications here and there. Its a 3.9 CFI, 4-speed auto with 228,000km. Runs fine, could be better though.

Me and the old man aren't too good with the mechanical side of things, so this'll be a big learning experience for both of us. What are some things that may need replacing in the coming months? Any advice from other E-Series owners would be great.

Anyway, heres a few pics.

Cheers.

Welcome to the Forums and the E-Series section!

What do you mean by "could be a bit better"? Are you talking about performance, features, mechanical issues, interior condition, etc etc?

The most common upgrade modification for CFI-powered EAs is the MPFI conversion which involves replacing the intake manifold, dizzy, and other various bits & pieces. A thread made by SnyperEB has recently resurfaced with info on the MPFI conversion.

Hopefully you get many years of happy motoring out of your EA mate.

Welcome to the forums.
First suggestion, convert to multipoint. CFi is crap.

Thanks mate.

Throttle response was poor and it ended up stalling once, but was fine once it got going. Steering, nothing new tires can't fix. The interior is shot though. That'll get attention eventually, but it doesn't concern me right now.

The air con is another that needs to be fixed.

Thanks. Is this a big job? It's something I'd definitely consider, but how much will it cost etc?

Check this thread out. This'll tell you most of what you need to know about the MPi conversion. I haven't done it myself, because my car was MPi from the factory.

After doing a bit of research, this is something that will be done in the future.

After getting roadworthy, the air con and MPFI conversion will be the first things done, after that I'll look at lowering it, as well as new brakes. The interior/exterior will be tidied up along the way. After that? Who knows!

GL'90 welcome to the forums.

We can't be held responsible for the amounts of money you will now be spending on your new ride! ha ha. As said, convert to MPFI and also go manual. acceleration will almost double!

I can feel it burning a hole in my pocket already...

And I'll be on the lookout for a manual box/ECU along the way. (Thats all I need for an auto-manual conversion, right?)

welcome mate, I joined this club 2 months ago or so, and i know more about my car than i think i know myself!! its great being on here, little things you pick up on and new people you meet, I've also gotta replace my aircon, either regas or change the hold thing, which to regas is around $100 i heard and replacing the whole thing...well couple of hundred more, summer should be ending soon, so see if you can hold the heat for a bit n spend your mooolah on performance and gettin the engine up to scratch.
