Default Nearly Got Stolen!!

i came home last night and i drove into the garage and i noticed my dad was home from work (driving my car- eb). anyway i noticed the drivers side door lock did not look right. i took a look at and it was very clear that a screwdriver had been in the lock. the paint on the door handle was scratched and the lock itself had the whole front of the barrel off. luckly the key still works but i am spewing that it happened.

i took out my sub and my head unit just to be safe for today. anything else i should do. i was going to take my wheels off but 1 tyer of my spare set has a puncture and the other 3 are bald as.

any advice?

Make sure it's comprehensivley insured, or at least 3rd part fire & theft. If someone wants it, it doesn't matter what you do, they'll take it.

Steering lock as well, just in case. Worst case you can beat them up with it if you dont use it.

Dirty pricks! I hate people who damage car's and steal car's for no reason, why cant they just buy there own!!

insurrance doesnt matter. especially if they only take head unit cos excess is like 850 even for minor claims. its your pride and joy. no amount of money would bring it back. the buggers need to be tought a lession....with purhaps the steering wheel lock as said above.

my mates ea ghia got broken into at the pink concert within meters of the security booth. they took his head unit and tool box he had in the boot. and the ****ers ****** the dash big time. luckily i have a spare window and dash to replace what they stuffed. but they made a mess of what was a mint car.

im still temped to do the door popers and no handles on this project car. that and video monitoring (dual batteries so dont have problem with power) so if i get done i can pass on the video to the cops so they put an end to the person or persons.

but yeah as said above....get a wheel lock and good insurrance

Default cool thing to do

Why don't you take one of the critical fuses out when you leave the car. Plug it back when you want to drive.
Fuse is small and can easily fit in your pocket, the thief would be able to start the car.
This way you don't pay for extra security measures (i.e. steering lock).

Just keep your fingers crossed that the thief is not an auto electrician

I've thought about doing that! The red 10 amp fuse that controls ignition, lights, constant power etc! The car cant be started with it out! I might do that when I go down to the Stone Sour concert this month!

Kill switch.

I used the spare spot near the Rear Demist Switch.
Fitted a wagon rear wiper switch and then wired it to the coil.
Car would crank but no start. (people notice a cranking car more)

Worked a treat and to the untrained eye, did not look out of place.

Ahh k, so you're saying insurance dosent matter, because even if you did get your money for the stolen car, it just wouldnt be the same... To a point, yes, but its better than getting no money at all for it... Yet the last line says to get insurance???
Belt them with a steering lock, would only work if your getting carjacked,
why run past them to get the steering lock if you caught them in the act? im sure they will stay there and wait for you...
Sucks to hear about your mate too, if he was so close to security, would they have cameras?

You could do what Mr Bean used to do and take the steering wheel off

Do you have alarm with screamers?

If not, leave car unlocked.

Yep, unless you can't park it near cameras, you'd be best to leave it unlocked, that way they look through your car and find nothing, then **** off.

tonkoxr8 i was missing the word TYPE in my top line.
what i meant was insurrance TYPE doesnt matter cos u still have to pay like $850 even for small things like head units and the broken dash & window they leave behind.

the line.. no amount of money will bring it back is true due to custom once off parts & the time and effort put into each car. not to mention replace or repaired cars are never the same as the pride and joy.

Kill switch is a good idea. I used to have oen hidden in the boot. Only, on one night jsut after i'd moved into a new place where I couldn't get the car into the driveway (car was too low) and forgot to pul that switch i ended up with the same as you. I caught the guy doing it and scared him off.
Wheel locks aren't effective if someone is determined but can act as a visual detterent to kids.

Wanna buy a car alarm? lol :P Nah seriously, that's not good to hear. More than likely they were just trying to get in to pinch your stereo/CD's etc. If your worried about the car being stolen you can always remove the fuel pump relay when you park it too.
