It seems like they are having one last desperate attempt to get our business, we have had 6 calls from various companies today :

I can’t wait for this register to become operational.

No need to be on a register just say "Thank you for your call" and HANG UP!!!!!
Always say thank you because no one likes a rude bastard.
You could always string them along until they hang up on you just like I do sometimes.
I've had some **** funny conversations with these people because it takes them forever to realise they are being taken for a ride!!

My Dad will string them along for days, then when they think they're about to close the deal he tells them he's not interested.

I usually hang up straight away without speaking to them. I should get people who i know that ring me to say hello straight away rather than waiting for me saying hello which i do to c if they are telemarketers.

* puts on tin foil hat

Putting my numbers on a list, for the government..... no thanks.
After all remember, some (read - most) do not have to abide by these new rules.

My fear if I was to put my name and numbers on that list would be calls from government parties vote chacing before the next Fed election.

*takes tin foil hat off

Just signed up. No reason why it shouldn't work, the UK and US have been doing it for 10+ years.

You did read the part on the screen where it says "Account number optional" ????

The government won't charge for it.

There ya go lerner. If you cant get a job in security try a call centre. There will be so many people signing the 'do not call' register you wont have to do anything, you must be qualified for that

I am still waiting for their conformation email. The register does not go far enough. Charities, market research companies and political parties are exempt.

Westpac have been calling me heaps lately, apparently I am a very valued member as I have been with them for 8+ years, and only certain people get these offers.

BS.

I let the lady talk for a bit and politely said "I am grateful that you do not have an Indian accent, but I am not interested in this point in time".

She laughed, and then said thanks cya.

So are financial institutions so I'm still going to cop the call every two weeks asking if I want life insurance because I've been specially selected. How many times to I have to say no, worst thing is they're usually Australian people calling.

how long before some company signs up, gets the list of blocked numbers, and sells it to an offshore callcentre?

Are telemarketing calls from overseas covered by the register?

Yes. The Do Not Call Register legislation applies to both businesses within Australia that use overseas-based telemarketers to help solicit sales, as well as those based overseas making calls to Australian telephone numbers.

I wish they had a register where we could nominate when dealing with businesses that we didn't have to speak to call centres from overseas..........

Now we need a do not knock register to keep the idiots trying to save our souls away from our front door.

If a company, be it here in Australia or overseas, is doing telemarketing calls on behalf of another Australian company, then the do not call legislation still applies.
