Mine lasted a year then would not hold charge. Not happy for a $350. I bought it via a CAA bulk buy.

I've heard a few bad stories about Optimas longevity (or lack thereof) from a variety of places, when I worked at Coffey Ford we used to deal with a couple of battery distributors who said that they got a lot of Optimas back on warranty, not in huge numbers, but they were definitely there. Conversely I haven't yet heard any bad stories about the Exides, but then again they're not nearly as popular.

That's another reason the Supercharge Gold impressed me, installed in the EL battery box all you see is a nice flat battery top and the two terminals. The caps are flush and sealed. The carry handle folds down flush, doesn't even look like there is a handle there. It also has one of those charge indicators on it.

these, in my opinion are the best batteries in the market. 2 year warranty, fully sealed calcium battery. these and delkor batteries are the only ones we stock at work and for good reasons. i have one in my car, and also one in my brothers. and are 600cca for a ford type battery.

Default Which battery is best?

I'd like to know which is good value for money, which lasts, etc.

Vote in poll and post your opinions.

I run a marine battery in the diesel Landcruiser, I tried Optima (sealed) battery, it lasted one year and a day, just out of warranty, and it dropped dead with no warning. Only the marine comes anywhere near the performance of the original Japanese Yuasa battery. (New in 1984. now with 494000Km's.)
The battery in the Fairlane runs so hot I can't imagine a sealed battery lasting very long. The wet-cell ordinary batteries only last 2 or 3 years. I have been thinking of moving the battery to the boot, anyone done this?
Regards, Ray.

Do you still have the air intake connected for the battery?
Yeah I have relocated battery to boot. (Start up a new thread for more info)

My first one i bought didn't work at all, but at least i got to exchange it for another one. That one then stopped holding charge about a year after i bought it, and the the third one i bought off the CAA bulk buy, but stopped holding charge shortly after. Another friend also had his die in the same manner after about a year. But yes i do have 3 friends with optima's that haven't had a problem, but it's clearly a common problem...

I can't believe choosing a battery for standard/near standard cars actually required a thread and then a poll.

Why not?

People need them.
People wants options and opinions.

What do you mean standard. The vit will be turbo and the coupe is turning a 351!

sunny has a point. turbo's and 351's dont run off battery power... you need a battery with high CCA to turn a high compression donk perhaps, but a deep cycle marine type battery? not like you need a long RC unless you have a big stereo, a fridge, or some similar 'engine off' accessory. most important thing for show cars which arent driven frequently is long shelf-life. gel cells help here but thats not what they're designed for.

i just replaced my battery but it was with a 460 cca exide or whatever the brand is as i dont really think spending 300 on a battery is really needed when my sound system is pretty little and i never use it when the car is off anyway.

marshall will charge $149 for a falcon to come out and fit 460cca standard sorta battery 2 year roadside warrenty. Marshall batteries are Exide. they also have a 550cca battery that will slot right in.

as for "supercharge" batteries i change so many of them for the fleet companies that are only a touch over 2 years old.

Sealed batteries wont necesserilly last longer than the regular type either
