Oh, you should never use a bottle to hit someone. There are people that can help you if you are violent and need to hit things.

What's the double standard?

I can see that the authorities are trying to save young lives with these laws, but natural selection tends to sort the idiots out from those destined to be here a while. It's just unfortunate that a lot of the victims are not the driver, but the passengers and/or occupants of other innocent vehicles. While the road toll is a tragedy, there are actually higher rates of death from other things (liking cancer from cigarettes), that they really do nothing about (too much tax loss if they banned ciggies).

Anyway, laws are laws, and should be followed, or pay the price for not (if/when you get caught). The OP looks like he's on the right track with the exemption, so maybe this thread can now be closed?

As for your ute problems get yourself a cheap Hilux or Bravo until you are able to drive the car you have or would like to.

P.S. My "allowed car list" would consist of cars like:

Suzuki Mighty Boy's
Daihatsu Charade
Nikki

That type of car. I'm sure you get the idea without putting a huge list up.
The same type of debate is going on with motorcycles at the moment. The problem I see with this is that the cars you suggest are generally not as well built, don't handle as well, have worse brakes and most don't come with a lot of safety devices like airbags. Would you rather put a young driver in a well built car that is predictable and is safe when things go wrong, or some old car with dodgy brakes and no safety features?

I think the stock power was about 150kw, but power is not the problem, it is capacity to weight as FPV8U, it would have to have a kerb weight of 1650kg for a 5.8L engine to be legal.

just get a small shitbox car and wait ur time out. save some cash on the fuel side.

when ur off your p's and you see a spoilt p player wanting to be able to drive there dads boss290 gt st8 of there L's maybe you could shed some light on the matter and say....... its because you dont have enough driving experince on the road to handle such a MACHINE but in your case its quite unlucky for you cause the car you want to drive on the road is just an amazing car u want to show off rather then a beast that eats other cars

If that's right, chuck 8 bags of cement on the floor and in the boot and take it to a weigh station. OK, maybe just apply for that exemption.

That type of car. I'm sure you get the idea without putting a huge list up.
And thats where it can all fail too! The Mighty boy in an RACV crash test many awhile ago was rated as the first 'no star' registered car in Austalia! My P plater son had a bing in the ZJ fairlane vs a new Pulsar ...... guess who got to drive home in absolutley one piece while the other was a little sad I must say!

Didn't the Niki literally fall over while being tested by Wheels magazine too?

Instead of this rubbish about banning v8's and turbos, why not just lower the power to weight ratio? The 125kw/tonne thing worked well, but too many cars are still much too quick under those rules (i believe a V8 VN SS is fine, V8 VN exec isn't). My R31 skyline under those rules with 114kw was bloody quick enough. But I digress.

Store the ute and buy an old bomb, If it's your first car you're better off with something cheap that you wont care about too much. I seriously regret not doing that when I first got on my P's, having a nice car when you turn 18 is good, but you will save SO much more money in the long run, not only because it will cop the odd nick and scrape, but you wont spend nearly as much pampering it.

Also, if you're DD, it wont matter as much if you go to a party in a dodgy suburb and leave it parked there overnight. Old bomb is the way to go. Store the ute, build it up more, drive it up and down the street every couple of weeks, and by the time you're off your P's, you'll have a killer car

I'm fairly sure exemption in Vic. only applies to you driving your employers vehicle and only for work. Eg. you can't borrow it for the weekend and drive it around. Same for your car, if you manage to get an exemption for work, it only applies for work, you wouldn't be able to drive car on w/ends.

Hope this helps.

are the new laws official?? im also againt the ban on v8's n turbo's if people act like d*icks in cars like these when there banned people will just act like d*icks in 6cyl or 4cyl its not going to sole the problem. maybe because people are driving little **** cars while on their P's instead of their other car with a v8 they will do more burnouts etc i know if i was driving my xr (has a 351) i would not do a burn out or anything like that cos i know how much effort i put in but as of the vl i picked up for 300 for instance i dont care if i do burnouts in it. im not saying i would do any of these and drive like an idiot but maybe other people are thinking it

also with the change your badges idea, dont cops tell when your driving a v8 by when they type in your reg number and it comes up on there comp: model of car: ford whatever. Motor: V8 etc
