Default Looking at getting a Cortina

Well I got my bike up for sale so that'll give me a bit over 5k, my origanal plan was to build a 250Xflow and put it in my XD, but since I'm selling the bike I don't really need a ute any more. + the ute needs a bit of rust repair done to it.


Sooo..... Here's the new plan,

Buy a cortina ( a rust free one )
Still build the 250xflow except drop it in the corty.
Have it all done within 5 months (before I turn 18)

Ok so I got a bit of cash saved up making my budget around 8k when I sell the bike.

I've been looking at a TE, but my question is, is there anything I should be looking out for with the cortina's? Will the chassie handle the torque of a modded crossflow?
Will be running a cam 2000-5000rpm rev range maybe a bit wilder with around 10.5:1 compression.

And is there anything I should be looking out for with the cortina's? Will be buying one as close to standard as possible so I can do the work on it my self.

cortinas are the go the chassie will be fine they put killer v8s in them. i love the cortys i have owned 8 of them from tc to tf i still have a tf now. but to put your motor in a cortina ya will need to change the sump dipstick position and oil pick up but all is very easy. if ya have any qustions feel free to ask.

I'm looking at getting one with a crossflow in it already, so it's all already setup for me to just take it out and drop the one i'm building in.

What about suspension wise, what's a good combo to get em handling good ?

the sumps are different on the cortina, PM p100 he should have a picture of a cortina sump...
might be easyer building the motor already in there

mate even if it has a xflow in it ya will need to put the sump ect from the corty on to the motor that ya building in a falcon the deepest part of the sump is the front in a corty the the deepest part is the back that is why ya need to move ya dipstick position it is very easy the hole to shift the dipstick tube is allready there it is just blocked up with a ballbearing. to get one to handle not hard do the bushers put good shockies as all that stuff is getting old with a te/tf. then just lower it.

first pic is a falcon sump..
second pic is a corty sump.

the motor is a XF EFI motor but with carby manifolds used.

you need.. Cortina Sump, Cortina Pickup, Cortina Oil Pump (Falcon ones are longer and will put a hole in your sump. as i found out) and most importantly.. the 2 main bolts the pickup bolts to as they have a thread on the end and the falcon main bolts dont.

*edit* You also need Corty engine mounts on the block :P forgot to add that

Hmmm, now I see what you mean by the motor already in the cortina would probably be easier to build.

i rooted the motor. busted crank. was very rattly driving home.
motor lasted 3 months. gave it hell tho.. mostly coz it had a T5 + 3.7's. had a lot of fun in it.

How do the t5's hold up against a good thrashing? looking at running t5 and 3.5.

killed the engine b4 i hurt the T5 or the diff.. so they hold up pretty well.

dodgy jack skillz are good.
should see me engine removal by hand skillz. should be able to find it no worries if u look

crow 14892 i think (using memory)
1800-4800rpm.

Nice, I've got a 2000-5000 sitting in my bedroom along with all the crow cams valve train to suit.

so it was quicker than a 15.

Wow, So can't wait to get the cortina and build the motor.

My mate has a stock VN 5liter he reckons his v8 will munch anything lol. He'll be in tears when he gets beat by a N/A 6cyl.

Ok, going to check some out this weekend.

I have a few questions though.

I've found a 4cyl TE ghia, no rust, no dents, good paint.

but it's a 4cyl..

how much work is involved in changing a te 4cyl to a 6cyl.
I've heard the firewalls are the same but is there anything else I should be looking out for?

Are the diffs any different?

I'm a noob when it comes to cortina's.

yeh diffs are different ratio.. 4 cyl has either 3.5 or 3.7 ratio and the 6 cyl has 2.92

you'll need 6 cyl mounts on the engine + body..
need to cut out the radiator support panel to where the 6 cyl radiator normally sits
need to move the gearbox crossmember back to where it sits on a 6 cyl.. re weld in the mounts or whatever.
6 cyl tailshaft

and possibly change the badges from 4 cyl to 6 cyl :P

Ok guys I broke my leg on thursday and had to get an operation spent the last 5 days in hospital looks like the cortina is going to go on hold for a while :(

Going to check out a Te on saturday.

It's got a mild xf motor and a t5. Looks like a good starting base.

Might post a pic of it in my driveway in a few days >.<
