Lately I've had a problem with the car. It's happened 3 or 4 times.
After I start the car I put it in drive but when i accelerate it feels like it's in neutral then a big CLUNK occurs and the car is fine and back in gear. It sounds like it's happening at the diff. Is it the diff....or is my gearbox on the way out ?? Anyone had similar probs ?? |

looks that way.
i read through the threads and saw similar problems. They referred to a few things. I'm not a mechanic so was unsure about a few of the suggestions ATF ?? Automatic Transmission Fluid I'm assuming. solenoids ?? WTF ?? Another previous problem is when i kick down at lower speeds the car revs but doesn't accelerate, I think second gear. Someone said it might be a blocked catalytic converter. Anyone else hear of this problem happening due to a blocked catalytic converter ?? |

I doubt your problem has anything to do with your cat. Just get it flushed asap and you shouldn't have any issues.

i can tell you right now, mr ex cab, that your transmission is royally dead and in need of a replacement.

It's your tranny. it may just be low fluid or it may be stuffed but either way take it to a tranny specialist get it serviced and it may survive.

yep tranny.
i had exactly the same problem on my AU when it was only 1 year old. mine was with reverse though. Ford replaced the whole gearbox under warranty. that should give you an idea of what to expect. |

ive got that exact problem gettn it serviced this fryday hoppfully its just low on oil

My reverse takes about 1-2 seconds to engage, but drive is fine. I assumed it was a precaution to stop you moving back when moving the shifter from P to D. Now I am worried, should I be??
Also, what would cause a grate/clunk noise occasionally when changing from 2 to 3? Cheers Nic |

i had the same problem with mine. I just added some tranny fluid and its been sweet as ever since!! If it was the cat you would feel it kick into gear straight away and will rev and wont go anywhere. I had that problem to!!

i was told by a auto tranny place that the "delay" in the shift between D and R is a clutch pack thats wearing out ..
