So which one of you accountants can tell me how much of a % I can claim on the laptop I have been leasing for 2 years, 6 months of which it has been used for school that work has sent me to.
Saves me a trip to the accountant

Based on rough calculations I've paid $800 extra in tax before I take deductions into account. Might crack the 4 figures this year.

After deductions, my income came down to whatever it did and the tax payable is the tax on that plus HECS plus the Medicare items. If it wasn't for HECS, my refund would be $11k.

this is the first year since `96 that i have had wages ( no i wasnt in jail, -was self-employed)

have no idea yet how much i will get back yet, havent thought too much about , be nice to get something back though instead of having to pay like the last 10 years.

anything i get will go towards building a shed on my block of dirt so i have somewhere to keep my toys .

Not quite right, the 2007 financial year return has abolished the need for the A2 Tax Free Threshold adjustment to be made for people finishing school. So they are entitled to the full threshold.

PS: I also loathe this time of year as well...

I Should get back $300 to $400 this year. I get crap returns because I have no deductions (Shoes and thats it) everything is supplied to me via work. Still no complaining im on a good rate and get ~6% pay rise each year.

Nah sounds about right, most people earning $20M a year would be looking at that...

yeah, turns out im getting ripped yet again.
sacrificed 10% of my pay, the 3% for the SFSS (taken out weekly) and the 2.5% medicare levy and i get a crappy $1700 back.
medicare levy i can understand and the 3% SFSS has been coming out all year so i should be getting 7.5% back, but alas, im not.
should have been getting back around $5000 but it seems that when i changed jobs, the new job didnt take into account what i had previous earned for the financial year and only payed tax on the remaining 6 months of this financial year that i was employed with them. lucky i made them take out 10% or would have been royally screwed.

I would just be happy not to pay any money back to the the buggers, but as I found out today, I still have some GST to pay on a house from 05, so no luck this year.
