Can I drive an AU XR8 on P plates?

I require the curb weight of the AU XR8 series 1 to 2 to calculate if I can drive the XR8 on P plates in VIC.

i researched this a while back and if the power to weight ratio is is more then 125kw per tonne then you are not ment to drive it on you ps

High Powered Vehicle Restrictions

From 1 July 2007, new restrictions on driving high powered vehicles will be introduced for probationary licence drivers who obtain their licence from 1 July 2007.

From this date a probationary licence holder will not be able to drive a vehicle if it has:

An engine of eight or more cylinders;
a turbocharged or supercharged engine (except diesel powered vehicles);
an engine that has been modified to increase its performance; and/or
any of the following high performance six cylinder vehicles as published in the Government Gazette:

Penalties

From 1 July 2007, the penalty for driving a high powered vehicle will be three demerit points and a maximum fine of approximately $1100. These penalties will apply to both the current power to weight restrictions and the new high powered vehicles restrictions.

im pretty sure u can drive serries 1 and 2 but not 3 and if you are in vic and got ur licence after july 1 you wont be able to drive any v8, turbo or s/c

My handbood Series 1 states the weight of a S1 XR as 1530kg. The power is 185kw so the rating is 121

So is correct, Series 1 XR 8 with 185kw engine (not modded) is ok, but the Series 2-3 with their 200 and 220 kw engines are out.

1530 is the kerb weight of a Forte.

In reality it's actually closer to 1600 kg.

Simple:

Got your P's before July 1? You can drive any 185kw V8. You cannot drive a 200 / 220kw series 2/3 XR8. The rule is anything with a power to weight ratio of 125kw/tonne or less.

If you're not getting your P's until after July 1 (I know we're on the 9th at the moment) then you may not drive any:

- V8
- High performance 6 (BMW, etc)
- Turbo / Supercharged car

Just checked my license papers and they say the tare of a s1 v8 forte is 1468kg

sailing close to the wind. to cover yourself if your a pre July1 P plater get one weighed at a weigh bridge and if legal carrythe weigh bridge ticket (for the actual car you are driving) with you or you might find some cop a bit keen will try it on and if he books you even if inocent you'll have all the court dramas

The calculation has to use the kerb weight and the stock output at the engine a court will not use any other figures. This was talked about sometime ago that a court will not even look at actual weights or dyno figures.

I have just recieved a second email from ford customer information as the first email only stated that the kerb weight for an AU series 1 to 3 sedan is 1530kg, but did not state if a 6 or 8 cylinder engine. In the second email it refers to the stated kerb weight of 1530kg as follows,

"Approximate kerb weight for a falcon XR6 fitted with the high performance 4.0L Intech OHC 6-cylinder engine and 5 speed manual transmission"

Therefore an XR8 (series 2 200kw) would only have to weight an extra 70kg to be below the 125kw/tonne limit. Vicroads guidelines states kerb weight and flywheel output to be used in the calculations, therefore a certified weight bridge certificate of 1600kg or higher and the manufactures stated flywheel output of 200kw would be satisfactory, but a dyno reading would not as it indicates rear wheel output and not flywheel output.
