If the I6 is to disappear, will this make you look more closely at other options for your new car??
The Duratec 35 was on the Ward's 10 Best Engines list for 2007, produces around 50Nm less then the Barra I6 engine (in 3.5 form), but will be available in 3800 cc's info here Info on the I6 here Last edited by 05MkIIFutura; 13-07-2007 at 08:39 AM. |

no it won't, i'd be disappointed though when the I6 goes but i understand why. It won't influence my decision on what car to get, many factors decide how i choose.

The Title and poll doesn't make sence, the I6 being discontinued is just speculation at this stage.
If it was discontinued we would need to know what it was going to replaced with to answer the question!!

Most of the reason i bought my BA over a comodore is the 4.0L engine. No mass produced small capacity V6 is going to have that much torque and sound like it does. If they do change to something like that i'll buy a 5 series BMW. The only local cars that interest me at the moment have the I6 up front.
EDIT: I'm not terribly attached to the I6, but when i was car hunting i had a very close look at the comodores of similar age and the only things that stood out for me were the styling and the engine in the ford. It was so close though, that i'm not sure i could've chosen between them if the engines were swapped, and if they both had a smaller capacity V6, i wouldn't touch either. The pole question is a little speculative but its pretty likely that if ford drops the current 6, it'll get replaced with a smalller V6. If they are trying to get under the euro emission things they aren't going to release a 4.4 litre firebreathing inline six. If they kill off the I6 I may salvage the one out of my xf and turn it into a trophy. You have to hand it to Ford, people have been expecting the big inline 6 to die for years but its still in production and still doing the job.
If they replace it with a V6 it would have to exceed the performance (in all area's not just power and torque) than the inline 6 otherwise it will be a waste of time.

well i didnt vote as the commodore and 380 are not a valid option for me.i will just continue to buy older falcons or v8 ones

If I didn't want a V6 in the Falcon, why would I get any other car to replace it i.e. Holden, 380 or Aurion.
While it would be disappointing, that's life and like all things, we'll get used to it and long term, may even be glad that things worked out the way they did. |

I now it has been covered in another thread, but why would Ford drop the I6 when they have received X amount of Government money to further develop the thing?
Doesn't quite make sense to me. AS long as they don't drop the V8 they Ford can do what ever they want!

personally i hope they keep the I6, i think its a great engine, and a newer V6 in smaller capacity wont have the low down torque.
i will look at different brands if they change engines |

Good reason for the "enthusiast's" to stop buying those toy 6's and get a real engine
Seriously though I wonder if it will make much difference in Ford's profit and marketing strategies, most fleet, rep, company car buyers wouldnt know the difference between an inline and v6 and probably don't care anyway. Having said that its not a good thing when we look at the numbers of projected job loses. |

I'd still buy a Falcon. If I missed the torque that much, I'd get a V8 Falcon.

What other people have said, especially to get a fairly weighty sedan off the line you need the torque. Unless of course IF they are replacing it with a V6 it was a decent bit of gear. Not like the 3800's in other cars...

I don't really care if it's a I6 or a V6 as long as it works well. A 3.8L V6 with 205kw @ 6000rpm and 370Nm @ 2400rpm mated to a 6spd automatic wouldn't be that bad .
