Default More Toowoomba Murders

well after the triple murders about 3 years ago now we have this

http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2...30/1991675.htm

A teenager has appeared briefly in the Toowoomba Magistrates Court in south-east Queensland, charged with the murders of two local children.

Brodie Preston, 19, is charged with two counts of murder and two counts of assault following the deaths of brothers Jason and Riley Schapman on Saturday.

Four-year-old Jason died in an ambulance on the way to Toowoomba Base Hospital, while 18-month-old Riley was taken by his mother to St Vincents Hospital but was also dead on arrival.

It is believed Preston was the boyfriend of the boys' mother.

He was supported in court this morning by his parents, who were instructed by his solicitor not to comment to the media waiting outside the court.

Preston made no application for bail.

Magistrate Bruce Schermioneck remanded Preston to appear in court again in November.

i just think its sad some1 being 18 and then going and wasting 2 very young lives as well as his own

another prime example of the need for capitol punishment in this country.
stronger sentences deter people from committing crime like this to start with, and our sentences really are a joke.
he'll get locked up for the rest of his days, that we'll have to pay for, the family of the 2 little kids suffers for the rest of their days, and the kids themselves never get to see their days at all.
honestly, where's the justice in that...??

as a father of a little tacker myself, my heart really goes out to the kids family.
i would hate to lose my daughter, and i simply cant imagine how they must feel.

Same here Outback , you go to the "end of the earth" to help your kids BUT when it comes to something like this "NO WAY" . They've got to pay for their own actions , specially at that age .

What's the world coming to ?

sorry, off topic here, but...
i never said that it would solve the problem outright either, did i??
these things will always be around, but u have to start somewhere, and actually making a suggestion is far more constructive than dismissing something because you think it wont work without coming up with another suggestion yourself.
thats 1 of the things that really drives me up the wall these days, on many different subjects and on many different levels... plenty of people want to give an opinion on what wont work, but never say what they think will...

off topic apologies again.

Unhappy

I'd reckon some sort of drugs were involved with this young bloke killing these kids.
apparently family services were warned not long ago there was a problem... Up to their usual standard.

Amalgamation has nothing to do with merging towns (why do people think this??) rather its just the local councils...

what proof is there of that?????

in my criminology classes there were studies done in the US.... highest rate of incarsaration (sp) maybe 2nd to russia or something but anyways

the states that had capitol punishment and the ones that did NOT had virtually no difference in the rate of punishable crimes commited and almost no difference between planned murders and man slaughter in either
these studies were done in the early 1900's the 70's 80's and recently

killing the worst criminals is good in that they arent around to do it again or teach the "less dangerous" in jail.....but prevention is better than cure

oh and no one here is in any position to be judging these people.... they would have had reasons for it or circumstances that would be comepletely different to that portrayed in the media

i could go on for ages but, im paying for the course...cant tell you everything :P

Teenager charged with baby brothers' murders

30.07.2007
By Louise O'Keeffe and Nikkii Joyce A TEENAGER will appear in Toowoomba Magistrates Court today charged with the murders of his partner's two infant sons.

The brothers, four and 18-months-old, both died on Saturday, sparking an intensive police investigation.

Brodie Preston, 19, an abattoir worker, was charged with murder of the boys late last night.

The shocking deaths came to light when the four-year-old boy died before arriving at Toowoomba Hospital on Saturday evening.

Investigating police, who were contacted by hospital staff about 5.30pm, then made the shocking discovery that his 18-month-old brother, thought to be named Reilly or Riley, had simultaneously been taken from his Darling Heights home to St Vincent's Hospital by his mother.

He also was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.

Police said post-mortems on the two children were carried out late last night, but the causes and times of death were not yet known.

Police sources late last night revealed the four-year-old had suffered noticeable injuries to his head and the 18-month-old boy had "significant' injuries. Police would not release the dead boys' names.

The double tragedy stunned Darling Heights residents and neighbours, who said they heard nothing in the lead-up to Saturday evening's events at the Sharon Court address.

Neighbour Natalie Nunemann said she knew that a young woman in her early 20s lived in the house with her partner.

"They had a small baby, but I did not know they had another child.

"I knew them to walk past and say hello, but I didn't know them."

After arriving home at 3.30am from attending the Master Builders Awards, Ms Nunemann was greeted by numerous flashing lights from police vehicles.

"All I saw were the police around the house," she said.

"I spoke with an officer because I was afraid it wouldn't be safe at home and I asked about the baby and they said it wasn't good. I decided to stay with a friend after that."

Ms Nunemann said the couple were a normal family but kept to themselves.

"I never spoke to them since moving in April 2006," she said.

"The woman seemed to be doing quite well with a small child and she couldn't have been more than 22."

Police refused to comment last night on television reports that the Department of Child Safety had recently been contacted in regards to concerns about the children.

Police said the mother of the dead boys was not at home when the assaults are alleged to have occurred.

these studies were done in the early 1900's the 70's 80's and recently
meaning, i assume, that you are against capitol punishment, but in the very next paragraph you wrote...

now meaning, i assume once again, that you are now for capitol punishment (all be it in cases which need such a law, which i honestly think is the correct approach).
so which one is it?? for or against, because it simply cant be both.

can i ask what is your suggestion??
you stated that you are studying these things, so i was simply wondering what your thoughts are??

very true, the media certainly does bend and stretch things to hype up stories, but seriously, it would have to be the reason of the century to explain why someone could murder 2 small children of only 4 years and 1 1/2 years of age.
nothing could ever give just cause for that.
