Powerchip - Viagra for your car.. <-- you mean that one lol

It makes your gearbox go stiff? lol.. In all honesty mate, its junk.. get the cash together and get either a Unichip($250-400), Edit($600-1100) or stand alone ems such as Haltech($1500+).

I dont think hes talking about the 20 dollar mod chip. But I also havent heard of any reports on them being good or bad. Would be interesting to say the least.

powerchip is an interceptor ECU add on on chip and while not as good as an edit there are considerable gains to be had I would go an edit myself but if the powerchip is cheap enough it could still be a viable option

I'm assuming he is talking about this one:
http://www.powerchipgroup.com/choice...hipgroup%2Ecom

As I said before... total junk. 1 size fits all is NOT going to work.

i had a mate with one a few years ago and it worked well . not up to the standard of an edit and it won't take major mods into account but a basic car with exhaust and intake mods the car was significantly more drivable. this will never be as good as an edit BUT it will improve your car. it really comes down to cost and if there is only a couple of hundred difference why bother. if you are looking at big power mods on the other hand an edit is the only way to go

Once apon a time every one raved about them when there was nothing else (how easy we forget) But unless you get offered one to suit your car really cheap 2nd hand then its been way overtaken with technology providing better alternatives that give far better results. Having said that I ran one in the early days when there was no edit avail. and yes you did notice more responsive down low. around $1100 will buy an edit and custom tune if you shop around and do your homework as some tune better than others.

Add $10,000 or $20,000 to the cost of the stand-alone EMS. That's what the fine is for having one on a road-registered car in NSW. Best to go stealth, especially if you have no other mods. Get the edit (SCT Flash). In Newy, call Blacktrack in Thornton.

When I brought my EF new in '94, the power chip was king.

I brought one and a speed cut lifter as well. Both worked, but cam / exhaust / intake mods to the 6cyl 5 speed made lots more pwr and torque than the stand alon powerchip.

From my experience, the top end gain is marginal at best, but the car does feel a little more responsive through the low / mid rpm.

I wouldn't bother if I were you, far superior products available now.

There's a few cars in NSW that are seriously modded and had aftermarket ems's. They didn't have any hassles come engineering or registering so I'm suprised to here there is such a hefty fine for having one. Having said that one would be a comple wat of cash unless the car is extremley modded to the point that a flash tuner wont cut the grade.

Had a powerchip on the old AU1 XR8 (manual), and while it gave some small increase in power, it also interfered with radio reception.

These days, you'd be mad to go past the flash tune/edit.

With the edit (I do understand this as I had my XR6T done) here in Newcastle it is impossible to get it done. I have had talks with RX Engineering here who does the turbo's, and doesn't really want to do them. He's quoting $900 for flasher than 6-8 hour @ $120 p/hr to get MAYBE 10kw's. With Powerchip their quoting 18kw's for $850. Shift paterns etc don't concern me as mine is a manual!

i have a powerchip on my 5L xls ute and it made barely any difference up top but down low and throttle response was increased a fair bit, but if u are lookind at more than an exhaust and air induction the powerchip wont cope

The Rebels have a bigger exhaust than a normal 220 XR8. Mine has a twin 2.5" system with twin 70mm outlets. From what I have seen, I'm told the exhaust is original and is very similar to a T3 system.

If you are going to spend $800 on one of these bits of crap then you are crazy...

With all the options around these days, for not much more, which offer REAL gains and improvements, you are mad to even think about nopowerchips....

You will find that the rebel would be no different mechanically to any other series 2 220 kw XR8, so if yours has a bigger exhaust, then it isnt factory.

Maybe, but the original sales brochure states a different exhaust, the picture on it also shows a bigger exhaust outlet and Ford spares also list different part numbers. An XR exhaust from what I've seen and had has 2 front mufflers (1 each side) and 1 rear (twin in, twin out). Fords exploded view shows same as what I have with only 2 front mufflers and NO rear. I have been told by the local Ford service manager (22 years with Ford) that it is a Ford exhaust. I can only go on what I have been told!
