hey guys..
Thinking of buying an 04/93 FAIRLANE NC II GHIA, Sedan...are there any common faults i should know of, or look out for? its the 5.0L V8, 165KW model..no reg or RWC, but looks pretty clean, would just need to clean up a coulpe bits and pieces, but it has 420,000kms..how hard do they go? ..aparently 1/4mile they do about 15? ...worth getting it and converting to gas? or is it going to lack too much power on gas? .. cheers, Big Rob

could be wrong but a car that heavy i doubt it could do 15's. you would buy a lane to cruze not to race.sound like a nice car though.

Wont be a quick car but will be a nice effortless cruiser. I would want to check the mechanicals throughly with that many kays. The Windsor is a reliable long lasting engine but if it's still original and not rebuilt I would probably only expect about 120Kw out of it not 165kw.
I had a V8 EF on gas; and while driving on gas it did have a noticeable power loss compared to petrol, it was still nice and torquey down low. Was a nice freeway cruiser and great around town, effortless to drive. Sold it to my housemate a year ago and it's still running fine with 320,000 on the clock with the original unopened engine. But if you want a performance car then I would probably keep it petrol only and then spend a crap load on performance upgrades, as these cars are not rockets in factory spec. But then a heavy 'lane body probably isn't the best choice for a quater mile stormer lol.

15's??? HAHAHA... I didn't get a chance to run my NC 5.0 down the strip, but i did put the 5.0 NF down for a 17.4 1/4 mile... I reckon a low 16 is possible for a stocker, as I had a lot of trouble with wheelspin off the line.
With over 400,000k's the engine will cruise around effortlessly enough, but don't expect any form of performance out of them. The I6, esspecially in tickford form will walk over a 5.0... but the 5.0 does have a lot of perfomance potential, but it isn't cheap.

Yeah, calder's track prep was crap that night... plus I had a full tank of fuel and shitty 15" 205 dunlops...
I would expect a low/mid 16 if i was to run again with about 12-15L in the tank, with the 17" 235s on it.

With that many KM's on it and no roadworthy or rego, I would expect all the ball joints and bushes would be stuffed at the minimum.
Have a real good look at it, as it may be cheap but to get it RW may cost around $2000 on its own. Good luck anyway. |

My one had 230,000 k's on it and the ball joints etc were all stuffed, that one has probably had them done once already I would gather. There was also a leak from the transmission.
I am sure you know what the common things to look at are. You should be able to pick it up cheaper than I did as it has double the K's. PM me I will give you an idea of what I paid. |
