Where do you jack up your E-Series?

Assuming you use a Trolley Jack Where do you jack up your E-Series?
Where are the best jack places for stands under the front stand points, rear axle .... ?

Theres jacking points on the sides of the car. You'll see a metal sill running along the side, at either end theres two tabs coming down with a gap in between, jack it up from there.

or if you want to entire front or rear use cross members or diff...

just be careful using the sills as braden mentioned. They usually crush using the trolley jack. The rust proof coating cracks, and pretty soon it will turn orange with rust.

If you get under the car, you will see a few flat bits of metal. I usually use those, or just jack on the sub frame.

Yeah I've had one of my 'jack points' collapse. Why do car makers use such weak points as 'jack points'????? I was able to pull the collapsed bit mostly back into shape and have had to grease it up until I can paint it! GAH.

I guess you could use the the car stand points on the subframe, they'd be a lot stronger.

i guess its just the design of the sills. They are not supposed to be crushed. As you may see, the standard jack does not push on the sill, but rather goes around it, pushing on the flat metal at the top of the sill. The sill is just there to stop it sliding side to side.

I wouldn't even think of using the sil jacking points with a trolley jack. I've done it adjacent to the sil jacking point underneath where it seems to have the same strength.

No way would i jack it up from the sills, you may as well jack it up from the mud flaps. For the front i use the rails and on the rear i use the trailing arm mount with steel plate on the jack.

any suspention mounting piont is recommended, or crosmembers/engine cradles and Diff's can be used, just got to lookout for any lines or cabes that could be attached to it. Sill jack pionts should only be used when using the factory jack.

The middle of the diff is fine to jack the car up, I would not go jacking the car up on the tubes either side though.

so if u wanted to jack up the front? is there a specific type of jack to use? the numbnuts who owned my car before me took the jack out (yeah yeah silly me for not checking) and i need to change my oil this week...

Out wide on the axle housing should be ok I'd think. Same as the general location for stands.

It's probably a good idea if you see if you can pick up the std scissor jack from the wreckers. They are only fit for that emergency tyre change but good to have in the car all the time.
For the scissor jack you fit it between the tabs on the rail right behind the front wheel.
For doing work at home a trolley jack is way preferred. Autobarn had them for $20 a week ago. Not sure if they are still on offer for that price. They aren't much (take a bit to lever and don't go very high) but are made to Australian Standards. A lump of hardwood compensates for the height restriction. Grab a set of stands while you are there.

Well you kind of having to jack it up on the diff housing to do certain jobs... pretty much every mechanic I've seen working does and pretty much every manual I've ever seen has said the same.

I wonder what Ford's workshop manuals say?

drivers handbook just says to make sure when doing it, both wheels are off the ground if the car is fitted with an LSD
