Default Should I paint stock wheels or not?

Hey guys,

I just bought myself a set of stock 15" rims for my EL from a wrecker and well they're not banged up but they have a little bit of surface rust and look a bit tired so I was thinking of taking to the rust with some emery paper and paint.

Anyway, what do you guys think, should I leave the stock rims black and just touch up the rusty areas or do you think they'd look alright if I repainted them with 'wheel silver' paint or some other paint? I was thinking maybe white or some such though my EL is Bermuda Green.

Its not that I'm trying to polish a trd and I do have mags but some p**k stole a centre cap so I'm going back to stock rims to prevent further theft.

Any opinions on the matter would be good!

Cheers,

Hunter

white would look crap. but either way its stockies. really depends if you like the look of silver or black rims. find a picture of a similar car and see.

Ok I think I'll leave white off the agenda, I don't mind the silver 'cop car' look but I'm just weary of the crappy silver wheel paint at auto stores, I've seen how bad that stuff can look

I do have a set of hubcaps which I bought today btw hehe They look a lot like the Falcon hubcaps though they're just some aftermarket cheapies.

I like the stock wheels in silver, but if you are putting hubcaps on then don't bother painting them.

Ok I hit the rims today, cleaned up with alkaline degreaser, washed them good and proper then sprayed them black with automotive killrust glossy black.

I had sprayed one coat with matt black but then ran out and could only get a glossy black to replace it. They're all painted up in glossy black paint now : . Just waiting for them to cure overnight and then putting some rubber on them on Tuesday. :

Will have pics of them soooon.

Haha no its just standard height - I replaced the shocks and springs about a month ago so now its riding even higher than most stock ELs do nowadays.

Nooooo not with new rubber!

Here are some pics of the finished job, the camera doesn't do them justice (I had the camera on 'steady mode' so it lowers the quality):

Cheers fellas. I could do them for people but I'm not a pro, I don't think you'd want me doing it .

What I like most about Killrust is its just so versatile - you don't have to do a huge amount of prep work to get a decent finish and they even say on the can that you can run it over light surface rust without doing anything other than gently sanding it off and putting rust convertor on it.

I wish I had a decent shed and some big tubs to acid bath these things tho - if I had enough time and space to do it all I would have probably totally stripped them bare and started off with primer etc.

Oh well they're shiny as hell now and they should look schmick when I get the rubber on them (going to do rubber on Saturday now because the paint hasn't 100% cured yet).

they will look good till you give the car a few hidings and some heat into the rims. Then they will dull unfortunatly... Hopefully the tyre place doesnt put 150gms of shiny silver lead on the outside! I managed to balance mine with stick-ons on the inside. Alot better.

Nikk O'lass has the right idea, powdercoat them red, get some baby moon caps and chuck whitewall tyres on em. Now you got a cruiser. Flame throwers are good but a 9kg bbq bottle and a spark plug is much more fun. I wont go into detail.

What, and driving around with a big cavity in the centre of your mag where the cap once was isn't ghetto?
